Hi,
Today I decided I would do something myself -- replace the air
filter. I replaced the air filter with a FRAM air filter from
Kragen. It looks pretty identical to the Denso air filter that I had
from the dealer.
Just curious... looked through old posts and didn't see much regarding
aftermarket air filters.
I tend to have air filters, oil filters, and oil changes at the dealer
but the Toyota dealer here in Fresno is impossible to get a hold of.
That reminds me... anyone here live in the Fresno, CA area? Anyone
here recommend a good place to get an oil change besides the dealer
that won't break the bank, you can get a hold of, and will do a GREAT
job...?
Thanks for insight, as always.

The only aftermarket air filters that gave me problems with Toyotas
were for very old carbureted models that used round filters. Toyota
filters had hard plastic on top and bottom and were sealed by gaskets
built into the filter housing, but aftermarket filters had soft
rubbery material on top and bottom and were slightly too tall to fit
unless at least 1 of the gaskets was removed from the housing.

Hmm, I don't se a question regarding FRAM filters, so I'm assuming you are
asking me whether they are good or not. I generally do not recommend those
"high performance" cone-shaped filters, but otherwise, the FRAM filter
should be fine. Look at the filtration media and see if it has the same
number of pleats as the OEM one.
Sorry, can't help you on a good place to get an oil change in the Fresno
area. It's been a long time since I worked in that region.

I have used the Goodguys the past several years and have been satisfied,
more for
convenience than any thing else. Don't know what the dealer charges but had
mine serviced
last week for $26.45 includes disposal and tax.

Have you tried Bingham in Clovis? I know Bing was trying to sell and
service might be changed but when he was up here his service department
(Porche/Audi/VW) was very good
I personally have "lifetime" oil/filter service by Lithia - was $295 for the
Highlander in 02 and has easily paid for its self. The 05 Avalon was a bit
more but takes 6 quarts.
You can get pretty good prices on Denso air filter on the web

They have a good reputation but I'm about as far west across town that
you can get and it's not worth the trip for just routine service. I have an
03 Avalon and 05 Matrix and all I have needed so far is maintenance.
