Maybe I'll get one after the kids leave the house.  I think it's neat.

I don't think you really want one.  I saw them in Germany when I went
last year and they are even smaller than you think.  Forget about doing
the weekly grocery shopping with one of those.

Hubby doesn't allow me to do the grocery shopping, unless he's out of town.
He hates that I buy in bulk, instead of just a two-week supply.  He doesn't
factor in that we *save* money by doing that; all he looks at is what it
costs at that moment.

I love him, but he can be really thick at times....

Buying non-perishables in bulk, at a good price, probably earns one a better
return than anything else, unless one is really hotshot developer or stock
broker.

What would happen if you brought home what you wanted to? Does he beat you?
What if you told him "You're wrong, I'm right, these 10 jugs of detergent
saved us $32.00. You'll get over it. Matter of fact, you ARE over it."

Do you really think *I* would put up with a guy who hits me?  Hell, and
might I add, no.

He doesn't disagree that it saves money, he just doesn't think the
difference, he just hates the bottom line when I do it.  It's a
psychological thing.

I've read many times that a huge percentage of couples who go to shrinks
together have insurmountable issues about

A) Infidelity
B) Substance Abuse
C) Money
D) Emotional Distance

I was surprised.

It's the cheapest man who spends the most.

He is the dream customer for printer manufacturers.  He will spend TONS
of money on printing--just not on a printer.

LOL you are so right!

He had an old laptop computer that really frustrated him (slow as hell).  He
had me put it in a computer shop, which cost at least half of what the thing
was worth new.  It took a while to convince him that he needed a new one,
and our Geek Squad son got him a helluva deal at Best Buy.

Way to go, Murv...

I had the same problem with my ex. I'd find $4.00 laundry detergent on sale
for $2.00, and I'd buy 10 of them. Eventually, she realized that I was doing
investment buying, just like I do at work all day long. She gave up
complaining.

I gave up on him before he gave up on me, but if I'm at Wal-Mart, Food Lion
or some grocery store that's having a helluva sale on something we use,
that's not perishable, I stock up.  As soon as I walk in the door I say, "Go
ahead and whine, but I saved us a lot of money.'

Gee, this $10 big bucket of laundry detergent from Costco does three
times as many loads as the $10 box of detergent from the grocery store
- and when I'm done, I have a clean plastic bucket with a lid.  The
box is just waste cardboard.

Gee, when I buy an 8-can case of canned vegetables at Costco, it's
less than 5 cans at the market...

You don't think we'll go through 36 rolls of toilet tissue or 12
rolls of paper towels in a reasonable time?  Think again.

Even the perishables are a deal if you can go through them before
they go bad - and you still have kids at home and food disappears at
an astonishing pace and you wonder where the heck they put it...

They have romaine lettuce in 6-head bags and iceberg three/bag,
grape tomatoes in a 2-lb tub and beefsteak tomatoes 8 to a flat, Haas
avocados 5 to a bag.  Four Bean Salad and Artichoke Hearts in 1-gallon
jars.  Two people can easily finish these items off before they turn.

(Wish they had Caesar dressing, I have to go to Smart & Final.)

Now the 10-lb bag of Red Delicious, that'll buy you 3 maybe 4 pounds
at the market - but we do have to work at eating before they get old
and mealy.  I suppose I could make baked apples when they start going,
but that's not in the Bachelor Cooking lexicon.

It's a good excuse for keeping that spare refrigerator in the garage
- and besides, having the spare has rescued me a few times when the
"New" refrigerator in the kitchen iced up and quit.  I finally figured
out it was the defrost thermostat and fixed it, meanwhile we just
moved everything out to the back fridge.

To be fair, when we had a deep-freezer in New Hampshire, he bought meats in
bulk, but he never let me get anything else in bulk (well, at least not
without whining about it)

I think some part of him knows I'm right, but he'll never admit it!

LOL

To give you an example of his Polish stubbornness:

When we first started dating, and I would do Bob's laundry, I'd bundle the
socks.  He would gripe that it was a waste of time.

After a while, I noticed that he bundled his socks himself.  When I rubbed
in the fact that he was doing that he said,

"Well, you got me used to that."

Not that I was right, mind you...

Well, Natalie, I, for one, dare not judge anyone. It took me years of paying
far more than I should of for groceries before I overcame my prejudice of
the "big barn" supermarkets with their, on the average, 20% lower prices.
Fact is, I was set in my ways and didn't want to admit that change was for
the better...in THAT instance.

I don't think you would want one.  It gets 40 mpg and seats two.  My
Corolla seats four (five if they're really good friends) and gets 38
mpg (for real) on the highway.

I'd love one of these cars too, IF there were no larger cars on the road.
But a Smart won't look half as cool after tangling with Any truck, Any SUV,
Any minivan, or Any automobile like a Buick Le Sabre or Chrysler 300 or Ford
Crown Vic.   And the owner of the Smart could be transported from the scene
in a paper bag.

You're such a ray of sunshine.

There is always something bigger to crush you, so I'm philosophical.  Having
said that, this car is extraordinarily small, so if there aren't very many
of those on the road, you're at much more risk.
