Don't Taze Me, Bro! - 21 Feb 2008 22:46 GMT http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8UUU3S80&show_article=1 WASHINGTON (AP) - Helicopters carrying three senior U.S. senators made emergency landings Thursday in the mountains of Afghanistan because of a snowstorm. Sens. John Kerry, Joseph Biden and Chuck Hagel were aboard the aircraft. No one was injured, according a statement from Kerry's office. The senators and their delegation returned to Bagram Air Base in a motor convoy, and have left for Turkey.
"After several hours, the senators were evacuated by American troops and returned overland to Bagram Air Base, and left for their next scheduled stop in Ankara, Turkey," the Kerry statement said. "Sen. Kerry thanks the American troops, who were terrific as always and who continue to do an incredible job in Afghanistan."
The lawmakers were on a trip this week that included stops in India, Turkey and Pakistan, where they observed the elections earlier this week.
Kerry and Biden are Democrats from Massachusetts and Delaware, respectively, and the Republican Hagel is from Nebraska.

Here is what I do know. Kerry tried to get deferments but when he was turned down indefinitely, he decided to join so he could chose his position. He chose swiftboat. Swiftboat was one of the more safe positions at the time.
The rest of the story is Republicans trashing him and Democrats acting like he is a f.cking God.

What kind of deferments can military officers, as opposed to enlisted men, get?

This isn't to say that the costal patrol the Swifts were engaged in then was especially dangerous, but that it was more dangerous than most jobs a person could have in Vietnam. In fact, only 10%-15% or so were involved in combat as a part of their job, with 85% or so never firing their weapon the whole time they are in Vietnam. A common misconception is that those figures are reversed.
Anyway, the costal patrol the Swifts were doing had them in a job where combat was possible. You couldn't say that about most jobs.
I should add that Kerry's second choice was PBRs, and those boats were definitely in combat.
Also, your timeline is somewhat wrong. Kerry went in the Navy, and was serving on a big ship. It was after a tour on that ship that he decided he wanted to go to Vietnam, and chose Swift Boats. Which is to say, he volunteered for Vietnam. He could have just stayed on the big ship.

And once there, what did he do? He used a loophole to get the hell out of Dodge, while many others not only servied their full tour of duty there, but were also wounded and still served their full tour of duty, and some even served more than one tour of duty.

Big deal. I did 1.5 tours, and could care less what Kerry did, as long as it was legal, or within the regulations, etc.
It cracks me up when people diss Kerry because he wasn't in enough combat (or in combat longer, in this case). The average guy in Vietnam was in NO combat.
I guess if you don't like someone you'll go to any length to find something wrong with them, whether or not it is valid.

Comment on the slimebucket changing the terms of the bet.

Four misspelled words in the above sentence. You cannot blame "typos" for those, just ignorance. And your ignorance is painfully obvious fom the content of your posts also.

What's the extent of your combat experience? You must have some since you would be a low-life douche bag of a hamster f.cker to critcize a combat veteran otherwise.

Why are you questioning the courage of a war veteran?

The cowardly sons a bitches who question courage of the heroes of combat, should be forced to spend as much time in the many VA hospitals in our country, as they do on usenet..

There are hero's and there are hero's. Benedict Arnold was a war hero.

Think of this as a sports bar. When you and your buddies go to a sports bar, you do not talk about sports 24/7. When you bring up, let's say politics, you do not say "OFF TOPIC GUYS, but did you hear about so and so?"
You're just being pesky with some dildo's rules that were used in a hot topic news group.
