So why did oil reach $10 a barrel back in late 1999, with gasoline about $1/gallon back then? At the time, articles in serious publications, like the Economist, speculated that oil would never go back up in price because new technology made it possible to find so much more oil.
larry moe 'n curly - 15 Apr 2008 16:16 GMT > Just wonder when its going to happen... I have no doubt that it will happen. Do you remember back when a question like that seemed crazy?
Do you remember back when Republicans were the fiscal conservatives?
We cut short term interest rates roughly in half because our deficits are so big that tax cuts can no longer stimulate the economy much any more. Ben Stein's father said deficits financed with loose money always resulted in inflation.
Mike hunt - 16 Apr 2008 00:16 GMT It is time to write to your Congressmen and Senators, at lest once a week, to get them off their stupid a.ses and start drilling in the fast oil reserves we have in Alaska and in our territorial waters and to set a nationwide, three of four standard gasoline mixtures, before that happens.

I didn't know Congressmen and Senators knew how to drill oil wells. I thought oil companies did that. What about Congresswomen? Should they drill, too? Or just the men in Congress?
What four standard gasoline mixtures do we have now? Which three of them do you suggest?
Jeff

My congress person is getting a nice friendly letter from me.
1. Lock the borders 2. Round up ALL the illegal's and deport them. 3. Change the law that says if your are born here you are automatically a citizen (if you are born to an illegal). 4. Allow drilling for oil everywhere in the country....including off the coast of Florida. 5. Make Nukes easy to build.
Just to start with.

In addition, for some reason, he leaves out Congresswomen.

If he wants to make himself understood, he needs to edit his words.

Having 20+ gasoline formulations is ridiculous, but there is no oil shortage, as evidenced by all the people driving alone in large SUVs and buying $4 Starbucks coffee. The US could import 70% less energy if people lived liked me, and I'm hardly scraping by in a hut.

Shut your f.cking mouth a.shole before you make yourself look even more retarded.
Hey a.shole why drill your own when you can drain everyone else's oil first. Import as much oil as you can so you can save yours until the end. f.ck you must be a f.cking stupid retard. I repeat KEEP IMPORTING AS MUCH OIL AS YOU CAN SO YOU DRAIN THEIR RESERVES FIRST.
You are a f.cking retarded loser and hopefully you will die tomorrow so you cannot have children and continue to spew stupid policy statements that ruin our society.
Mike hunt - 16 Apr 2008 20:13 GMT Come on, tell us how your REALLY feel. You are too late with the procreation comment, already I have five children, eleven grand-children and three great grand-children, over ten years old.
By the time we run out of oil we will be powering most everything with nuclear generated electric power and using oil made from our own three hundred year supply of coal LOL

You were programmed to do it. It's the only thing in life you didn't have to learn.
mrsteveo - 16 Apr 2008 22:14 GMT > <rantonr...@mail.com> wrote in message > [quoted text clipped - 22 lines] > cannot have children and continue to spew stupid policy statements that ruin > our society. I don't think 'IMPORT AS MUCH OIL AS YOU CAN SO YOU DRAIN THEIR RESERVES FIRST' is a great plan. That's a pretty narrow minded statement in and of itself.
Part of the problem with IMPORTING OIL is it's expensive -- very expensive and at some point, the US is likely going to piss off a key member of OPEC and where will we be then? I don't want to keep IMPORTING oil hoping that day never comes and/or IMPORT the oil until the reserves elsewhere run dry. That just doesn't seem logical.
I think it'd be wise we start looking for our own oil on our own turf so we're not so dependent and then when/if oil reserves start drying out, we're a few steps ahead and maybe for a change the world can be dependent on us for oil.
That seems like the most logical choice when all things are considered; at least, if you ask me.

That's essentially what we've been doing because the foreign suppliers are much cheaper, and the US hasn't had an energy policy since 1981.
