Ted Kennedy was airlifted to Mass General Hospital today with stroke-like
symptoms.

Damn, man, I want him out of office, but I wanted him to be *voted* out
of office. As much as I dislike the man, I hope he fares well.

BOSTON, Mass. (AP) Senator Edward Kennedy is conscious and talking to
family after he suffered a seizure in his Cape Cod home and was flown to
a Boston hospital.

Where did you get this? The headline from the link below is "Senator
Edward Kennedy hospitalized after suffering a seizure." The original
story was included "stroke-like symptoms," but this was updated around 4:30.

> Damn, man, I want him out of office, but I wanted him to be *voted* out

if you look at the picture of him being being transferred to the
helicopter, you will see that there is a blue ambu bag that is pumped by
hand to get air into his chest. That's not a good sign. Not being able
to breath one's own after a stroke is not good. But did I mention he had
a seizure, not a stroke?

> Senator Edward Kennedy hospitalized after suffering a seizure

Of course, another question is: What caused the seizures? However, the
man who had two other brushes with death (that problem with driving into
the stream in Chappaquiddick and an airplane crash in the '60s before I
even messed my first diaper) seems to be getting better from his third one.

I guess this is an example of why it is good to read an article before
posting a link to it.

Actually, that's standard procedure, until you can determine why the person
lost consciousness.

As a physician, I know that. However, it's standard procedure until the
patient is able to breath on his own, regardless of whether or not you
know what the person lost consciousness.

It's still not a good sign, especially with stroke-like symptoms.

The man is infamous for his heavy drinking.  I wonder how they were able to
détermine he was having a stroke.    ;)

As much as I hope he fares well, this *WAS* funny!
Mike hunt - 17 May 2008 23:54 GMT
As do I but I see humor is most everything and he is known to be a heavy
drinker.  When I go to a funeral there will be somebody near the coffin that
says, "He looks good."

I don't agree with the Senators big government philosophy but I sure would
not wish him any harm.  Good men can disagree about what is best for the
county and still not dislike those that do not agree with their position.

That is why the founders wanted a republic rather than a democracy so that
ALL positions could be considered not just those of the majority.   I
believe if we were a democracy we blacks would still not be able to vote or
hold office.

One of the biggest problems we face in the US today is the hatred from the
fringe groups that will attack all others personally for their different
politely beliefs.   The kooks on the left are particularly hateful.

Just look how they have told lie after lie for the past seven years to
vilified good men for their differing views, it is disgraceful and anti
American to demean ones own country simply for political advantage

The symptoms of a stroke include the *sudden onset* of one side of the
face or body drooping, slurred speech, inability to speak clearly, the
tongue pointing to one side when it is stuck out and difficulty moving
an arm or leg.

A stroke is no laughing matter. If treated quickly, most damage from a
stroke can be avoided in many cases. If not treated quickly, a stroke
can kill or, worse, causing severe permanent disability.

A stroke is sometimes called a "brain attack" to emphasize the
seriousness of the matter and that the stroke needs to be treated as an
emergency.

My grandfather, who would be only 111 today, died from a stroke during
the WWII when he was just a little older than me, when they didn't know
how to treat them.

Thank you doctor Jeff for you insight, but I believe most of likely knew
that already.   Having said that, I've seen many a drunk exhibit similar
symptoms

Yet, the symptoms from alcohol usually come on suddenly.

> LM, (Laughing Matter) lighten up

Strokes are not a laughing matter. They kill people each year and leave
others disabled.

I meant to say, yet the symptoms from alcohol usually don't come on
suddenly.

Actually, as you noted before, it has been deemed a 'seizure', although
they have still not said what type. At last report, he was said to be
sitting up talking with the family.

Since I don't know about Howie's list the question begs to be answered.
