John Kerry says we need some program to help the poor and the elderly pay
for heating oil. Here's an excerpt:

Kerry leads assault on energy prices
By Ellen G. Lahr, Berkshire Eagle Staff
Article Last Updated: 05/29/2008 07:35:50 AM EDT

Thursday, May 29
PITTSFIELD — Sen. John F. Kerry, at a public hearing that underscored the
unique impact of energy costs on New England and the Berkshires,
yesterday announced he will propose a Justice Department fraud task force
to investigate energy market manipulation and corruption.

"With Americans questioning the fairness of record-high oil and gas
prices, and the Bush administration's failure to act, we have no choice
but to fill the void ourselves," Kerry told an audience of business and
political leaders at Berkshire Community College.

What state is he from? Guess he never heard of Joe:

Oil Heat Program
The Citizens Energy Oil Heat Program has delivered millions of gallons of
discount home heating oil to poor and elderly households in Massachusetts
and other cold weather states since 1979.  This unique program helps
protect needy families from volatile heating oil prices, which often
leave households having to choose between heating the home and paying for
other life essentials, such as food, health care, or clothing.

Gee, he's only been doing it for NINETEEN YEARS!

Kerry, time to WAKE UP!

Joe Kennedy chucked it all years ago and initially set up Joe For Oil in
1979, mostly buying oil from Venezuela at cut-rate prices.

My choices have become, buy gas so I can get to work but miss the mortgage
because the gas costs so much, OR make the mortgage payment with the gas
money, but this will cause me to miss work. Either way the mortgage gets
bashed eventually.

Choices like this have been common for a long time, like buy food or buy
medicine or pay the electric bill.

Buy gas or pay the mortgage is a considerably different dilemma than the
picture you painted.

In some ways, they are. But, most importantly, they are similar that in
both sets of cases, one has to choose between necessities, either fuel
and mortgage, or medicine, electricity or food. In both cases, one has
to choose between things one shouldn't do without.

Maybe where you're at. Most of us haven't faced this dilema very often.
