I'll try later, the site must be down now. Thanks for the link. When
people find out what this is going to cost, they'll change their minds
in a hurry. Unfortunately it will be too late because they won't
realize the full impact for a few years after the legislation is passed.

As noble as some of their causes are, online petitions are still way less
effective than snail-mail. Why?
1. The servers often crash.
2. The recipient can easily delete it at once, without even reading it.
3. Most mailboxes have a limit for size, so it will dump the thing.
I always tell my friends that if they want me to participate, send a snail
mail addy as well.

Hand written carries more clout. Also personalize the petition.

Yup - a hard copy is hard to ignore.

I have to agree with you both. I'm not much for these things. Fact is,
they are mostly harvesting emails and other information.

Yeah, that too. At least with a paper petition, you can give a business
address instead.

Of course, it is not possible to give them a throw-away email address.
And employers just love it there employees get mail from campaigns and such.

Oh I just hate it when one of my less net-savvy friends forwards something
with my email addy on it. Often, their friends hit "reply all" and I have
to see if this is someone I know or not.
I've tried to teach my friends to cut out the forwarded addresses, as well
as to send their emails "blind" but they just don't get it.
:-P
