It was a very intelligent thing for him to say. But also very slick on many
levels. It will appeal to Republicans who are probably shaking their heads
and wondering why it took the Bush administration (not Bush) so long to
signal an end to a strategy that clearly has not worked with Iran.

You can fool some of the people all of the time, and you can fool all of
the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of

International policy is not what will get one elected in the USA.
Handouts and empty promises of government subsidies is what the mass of
politically uneducated voters understand. If Obama appeared on
American Idol you might as well hand him the keys to the White House.
