1973 Corolla 1600 Deluxe?  Was there such a car?

Hello there.  My very first new car was a '73 Corolla 1600 Deluxe.  At
least, that's what I always thought.  I just went online to find a
picture of said car – I'm having a fit of nostalgia – but I'm finding
only 1200's.  Was I mistaken about the 1600 designation, or am I mis-
searching?

It was a tremendous car, by the way.  It cost $2395, new.  Probably
one of the best I've ever owned, and I've owned a lot of cars.

Thanks very much,

Michael Hudson

You must have low standards.   If those early Jap cars were any good how
come one never sees any at old car shows?   There are lots of seventies cars
from the US, England  and Germany but never a Jap car except occasionally a
low mileage "Z" car or an RX7   ;)

COUGH!

Not to put too fine a point on it, but since my '73 Corolla – her name
was Nell, by the way – I've owned and driven Subarus, Fiats, Fords,
Nissans, Volkswagens (Beetle & Microbus, BMWs, Cadillacs, Volvos and
Saabs.  My current car is a Saab 9.5 Aero.  I like it very much.
Still, Nell was a suburb little car in all respects, including
purchase price, reliability, comfort, handling and cost of ownership.
Early "Jap" car, indeed!

I'm fairly sure there was such an animal.  They started putting 1600's in
Corollas (VIN would have started with TE2x-) about the same time they
started shipping Carinas over here in 1972 (Carinas were TA1x-)   Probably
for the same reason, also.  To beat the Super Beetle.

There was such a beast; I remember them. And the 1600 engine
was first installed in 1971 models, so 1973 definitely had the 1600.

You'll have better luck searching Google Images.

I'd like to think my '75 1600 was a great car, but sadly it wasn't.

Yes, there certainly was a 1973 Corolla 1600 DeLuxe. My next door neighbor
had one.

I had a 1974 Corolla 1200. A high school kid with a Brand New car! $2424
out the door!
