edspyhill01@yahoo.com - 29 Dec 2008 21:33 GMT Katrina's Hidden Race War By A.C. Thompson
This article appeared in the January 5, 2009 edition of The Nation.
A.C. Thompson's reporting on New Orleans was directed and underwritten by the Investigative Fund at The Nation Institute. ProPublica provided additional support, as did the Center for Investigative Reporting and New America Media.
The way Donnell Herrington tells it, there was no warning. One second he was trudging through the heat. The next he was lying prostrate on the pavement, his life spilling out of a hole in his throat, his body racked with pain, his vision blurred and distorted.
It was September 1, 2005, some three days after Hurricane Katrina crashed into New Orleans, and somebody had just blasted Herrington, who is African-American, with a shotgun. "I just hit the ground. I didn't even know what happened," recalls Herrington, a burly 32-year- old with a soft drawl.
The sudden eruption of gunfire horrified Herrington's companions--his cousin Marcel Alexander, then 17, and friend Chris Collins, then 18, who are also black. "I looked at Donnell and he had this big old hole in his neck," Alexander recalls. "I tried to help him up, and they started shooting again." Herrington says he was staggering to his feet when a second shotgun blast struck him from behind; the spray of lead pellets also caught Collins and Alexander. The buckshot peppered Alexander's back, arm and buttocks.

That's because people of the same race tend to live near each other.

Interesting theory, but I wonder if crime stats would back that up in all areas. I have my doubts.
Mike Hunter - 30 Dec 2008 20:51 GMT Really? Where do you live that you believe that? Don't you ever watch "Cops?" One sees black dudes getting caught in non black neighborhoods all the time, of course they say "What I do, I ain't did nottin?" The cops are just picking on them, right?
I never saw any white folks coming into our neighborhood to rob any of us when I was growing up. LOL

You are a cretin troll and knuckle dragger. How about this option - the white guys don't kill people just to kill people.

Can't grasp that black suffer at the hands of other blacks more than by whites? Can't wrap your two firing brain cells around that one, sh.t-for-brains?

Black on black crime is different than white on white crime, asian on asian crime, etc? Tie all this back to gun ownership.

Gun ownership. Sure. This in the face of decades of research which indicates that the primary source of crime among blacks is the lack of a positive male role model in so many families.
Now, watch as unConscious twists what I just wrote and says I don't support 2nd amendment rights.

Wrong again. Corner time, again.
Blacks' primary source of crime is the lack of a positive male role model? In this new, non-racist environment, you'll have to be careful with that one, Joe. Racism officially ended in November. There is now no more lack of a black role model in the U.S.

But sarcasm aside, arming more people isn't going to solve the problem described in the article. Just like the mythical "failure of the educational system", only better parenting will solve the problem.

Well, keeping in mind that there really is no single system across the country, what do you think has changed since 40 years ago? Or, do you think it was also a failure 40 years ago?

I think that the overall system is too encumbered with many chiefs, not enough Indians, union entitlement attitudes, and a dearth of academics not seen 40 years ago.

It was never perfect, but frankly, our school system (in my town) is doing quite well, and this isn't a rich district that can afford to dangle lots of money in front of experienced teachers to steal them from other districts.
I blame the problem on parents who don't lean on kids to do well, help them learn how to learn, and point out bad examples that kids should not learn from. Too many parents don't realize that they are at least 50% of the learning equation.

Remember 'New Math'? Since I attended school in 4 school districts, I could see the abrupt change between one district and another. Academics started dying the last year I was in high school at this one district. that was back in 1974, or 34 years ago. And I saw it happen after I graduated in other school districts that my siblings attended.

Nowhere did I say b-o-b crime was different, or that of any other race. You made the racist statement of whites (only) killing people just to kill people. Defend that.

Defend that. Referring to the article about the aftermath of Katrina, only whites were shooting people. I'm waiting for you to insert foot in mouth and lay out your racist agenda. I guess you never got past the headline and didn't read the following.
*** A former New Orleanian, this source spoke to me anonymously because she fears her relatives could be prosecuted for their crimes. "My uncle was very excited that it was a free-for-all--white against black--that he could participate in," says the woman. "For him, the opportunity to hunt black people was a joy." ***

Why do you think I cited the web article detailing the injustice of blacks being denied firearm ownership?
Sort of pokes a hole in that fat head of yours, doesn't it?

Imagine the headlines had that figure applied to whites for McCain.
