Hello,

I have a Toyota Camry, and am interested in the best car wash and wax
product available.  Are they all the same?  Are any real good products
available at local stores, such as Wal-Mart or Target?

Thanks

You can't go wrong with Meguiar's

http://www.meguiars.com/

Yes they are available at a number of local stores.  As I recall
Wal-Mart does carry them.

I would NOT know about Target.  I  personally have not stepped foot in
one since their CEO threw out the Salvation Army Bell Ringers a number
of Christmases ago.

I don't remember a Christmas when there wasn't a Salvation Army bell
ringer at the Phoenix Targets, except the year when one of their
stores was demolished for remodeling.

I think that most car wash products are very similar.  I like Turtle Wax's
product that supposedly washes and waxes at the same time.  I doubt if the
wax offers any real protection, but at least it doesn't wash the wax off.

I like Meguiar's wax.  Zymoil is supposed to be good but I do not have any
personal experience with it.

I've used Turtle's wash and wax for years.
Great product.
I'm sure if my clear coat is damaged a regular wax wouldn't have helped.
I drive in winter on some sanded and graveled roads.
I keep my cars for about 10 years and the finish still looks lovely.
BTW  my cars are garaged, makes a huge difference.

Here's Consumer Reports' July 2006 review results:

I can't find anything newer.  Waxes with bad scores for scratching and
hazing are the most abrasive, so you may want to avoid them.  Also
notice that the liquid and paste versions of the same product can be
very different.  For example, NuFinish liquid was among the least
abrasive, while NuFinish paste was among the most abrasive.

I also like Meguairs liquid and use their spray "detailer" also.  Usually do
twice a year but especially in fall if I'm lazy (as usual)

LMC posted a link to an interesting site that showed Black Magic as fairly
superior. I guess I'll have to try it...

My personal favorites are Meguire's and Zymol. Meguire's has always been
very good but requires redoing every 3 months or so, esp if you wash your
car frequently. The Zymol doesn't have the finish Meguire's has, but lasts
for about 6 months no matter how much you wash the car.

I also have some Teflon polish I got at Big Lots, Odd Lots or whatever for
$3,00 a bottle and it has a glowing shine and is supposed to give you
'Teflon' protection. Since I use this on a car that I have applied
Simonize Paint Protector to three times now, it's hard to tell if the wax
is keeping stuff from sticking to the paint or the Simonize. I've used it
on my Scion (with the Simonize) and one of my other cars and it has a
great shine. Easy to put on and take off, too.

Get yourself one of these at Home Depot:

Or this. This is what I have, I bought it when I was detailing at a Toyota
dealer and have done over 100 cars with it:
