She's a part of today's problem within the Republican party - so far to the
right, living right on the edge's precipice, that people with fully
functioning brain cells (ones capable of using logical processes) will no
longer be able to feel that they're part & parcel of the same party. The
more prominent & potent she & her ilk become, the more they will actually
work against their own party - eventually causing others to jump ship.

She's not working against her own party if you understand that the new
Republican party is the home of all the lunatics, neo-cons, and
uneducated Americans. The Republicans that believed in individual
liberty, fiscal conservatism, and personal responsibility are no longer
welcome in the Republican party of Bachmann, Limbaugh, Hannity, and
Palin. Specter didn't leave the Republican party, he was pushed out.

What's needed is for the smart Republicans to form a new centrist party,
because the people dumb enough to support Palin and Bachmann are a very
small (but vocal) minority.

Until then, you'll see all the independents and moderate Republicans
voting for the Democratic candidates. The Democratic candidates may be a
bit too liberal for them, but the alternative is far worse. Actually
it's not really clear that the Democratic candidates will be too liberal
for them when you look at who wins the Democratic primaries for the
senate, the far left wins very infrequently since the electorate is
overwhelmingly centrist.

In other words, they're exactly like the people defending Bachmann's
idiocy in this thread.  All one has to do to realize just what the
Republican rank and file is becoming is to read political threads on
USENET and hit the right wing web site forums.

Do you think that the posters on Usenet represent the rank and file
Republicans?

All the Republicans that I know in real life are far, far smarter than
dbu, Charles, Harochoiku, and Mike Hunt. What you're seeing in this
group is the dittohead neo-cons, the people that think Rush, Sean, and
Mark Levin (whoever he is) are telling them the truth.

My nephew lives in Woodbury Minnesota and he's in Bachmann's district.
He's also a hard core Republican that voted for her opponent because
she's such a loony. But he's a Republican in the spirit of Barry
Goldwater, not a Reaganite, or a W. type of Republican. His big issue is
fiscal and personal responsibility, and upholding the constitution,
issues that the current crop of neo-cons have no interest in.

In the absence of the normal Republicans standing up to the neo-cons,
people like Rush, Sean, and their minions will define the Republican
party, driving out the old-school Republicans. This in turn will cause
the remaining old-school Republican politicians to leave the party
because they won't even be able to win primaries against neo-con opponents.

In the 1960's the southern racist Republicans left the Democratic party
because they didn't like LBJ's civil rights agenda. Today, the
Republican party has become the party of hate, intolerance, and fiscal
irresponsibility, and they embrace anyone that shares those beliefs.
That means that there is no room in the party for the true conservative,
the one that believes in the constitution, the bill of rights, and
fiscal prudence. How appropriate that Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachmann
are the face of the current Republican party. I just read that Abraham
Lincoln has posthumously left the Republican party.

Could be you have that backwards?

I will try to grab an 'editorial' from a moron Liberal that lives in my
area. "...works in construction, writes and sing children's songs, and is
a frequent commentator on NPR."

His vile spewings appear every so often in the local paper, full of vile
and hatred for Conservatives. He rants about the hate coming from the
right all the time.

He should remove the log from his own eye before trying to remove the
speck from others'.

Some of us would think that's better than being too far to the left.

When the republicans start to present balanced, reasonable, and positive
proposals then they get a fair look vs. the Democrats. With the current
republican program, not likely that they are going to make much headway in
regaining seats in Congress in 2010. Most of the polls seem to be saying the
majority of voters aren't buying the republican story. Politics is all about
negotiations and compromise. Republicans aren't, it seems.

The "Democrats" in power right now are a collection of Leftist K00Ks drunk
with power. A close look at Pelosi, Reid, Kennedy, Clinton and a handful
of other 'leaders' should give you an idea of this.

On top of this, Pelosi is a great study in "do as I say, not as I do" as
represented by the number of no-bid contracts her husband gets. Bad for
Haliburton, good for Pelosi.

Vote those idiots out of office and maybe things can straighten up a bit.

This will sound absurd, but at least the Dems are consistent. By contrast,
the Republicans are blowing in the wind with no coherent program. Anything's
better than that.

You are  not getting it. While what you say about the Democratic leadership
is subject to debate, their problems aren't going to help the republicans
much if no appealing plans are forthcoming from the right. McConnell,
Boehner, and Canter have less to offer than Pelosi, et. al. so far.  And
None of them hold a candle to Obama for communicating his plans. It remains
to be seen how well he carries them out, but he can outsell the republicans
single-handedly so far.

Meanwhile, Republicans have no idea what Hack wants or expects, because Hack
thinks it's illegal to write to any politician except the ones from his
state. He's also really busy doing who-the-phuque knows what.

It's funny though: He's got the time to write stuff here, but no time to
write to elected officials.

Dear Tak again.  I wouldn't make any bets on it.  A lot can change in a
couple years.  To me the word compromise in the current atmosphere where
democrats rule, compromise means do it their way, the democrat way, then
when re-election time comes around they can say that the Republicans
agreed with us therefore you should keep us in power.  No, compromise is
not the position to take for the Republicans.  They have to have their
own innovative ideas and positions, if they are not what the public
wants or likes then they will not be in power.  When you don't have
something you want very badly you work harder and think harder to get
it.  That is now what the Republicans must do, if they have it in them
to do.  Maybe they're satisfied to sit back and be gadflies if that's
the case then they deserve the position they are in.  We shall see what
becomes of them in the next several months.

The woman's a total moron, which is why she's so popular with detritus like
dbu. From a recent article by Matt Taibbi entitled "The Class Clowns":

"But the real prize for nutty Red-baiting went to Rep. Michelle Bachmann, a
drooling dunce of a Minnesota soccer mom who is now a serious contender for
the dumbest person every to sit in the House of Representatives. When the
Chinese recently proposed creating a new system for international reserves,
Bachmann - who founded a charter school that banned the movie "Aladdin" for
promoting witchcraft - sponsored a bill establishing the dollar as the
official U.S. currency for ever and ever, despite the fact that no one
anywhere was talking about doing anything to the dollar. It was like calling
for an end to aid to Turkey because we eat them on Thanksgiving anyway."

That was MY typo. Since the article is not online yet, I retyped a chunk of
the print version. I'll post the link to the online version when it appears,
probably next week.

Taibbi (the author) tells it like it is, and he spares nobody regardless of
party affiliation. His own media job is even a target for his ire.

As long as the Republicans let nut cases like Bachmann and Palin define
the Republican party, they will continue their decline. Centrist and
moderate Republican politicians will abandon the party because their
electorate, centrist and moderate Republicans will no longer be able to
nominate them in the primaries.

If you want to look at a world where people like Bachmann and Palin run
things, watch _Idiocracy_.

The funniest thing about Bachmann's claim that swine flu happens under
Democratic presidents is that it's not even true, since the last
outbreak was when Gerald Ford was president. But hey, she's a
Republican, facts, logic, and science don't matter when you're a Republican.

OTOH, you can blame the centrist Republicans for not speaking up when
the neo-cons write a party platform that drives away what used to be the
core of the Republican party. It's easy just to leave, it's hard to
fight back.

to make lots of money and babies because you will need them to pay off
the obama budget in the coming years, LOL.  As far as the Republicans
go, they will be the opposing party, for the Republicans to morph
themselves into a liberal party would be selling out to America and the
loyal followers.  We can put up with the liberals here, I can't speak
for the rest of the nation.   We want the Republican party to be the
party of conservatives, so that we have conservatives and liberals for
the American voter to choose from, a clear choice, not fence sitters
that call themselves moderates, that is bullshit.  The moderates can
hike their a.ses over to the democrats.  Good luck.

Fiorina, who almost destroyed HP before the board came to their senses
and threw her out?

She's not the kind of person we need in politics, in either party.

I tossed her into the list to see if dbu lit up about it, even though he
does not read because of his fake eye problems.

Had to laugh.  SmokeMyShit and NoBedroom Doug arguing.    Almost as
rediculous as the two engineers I heard arguing over whether P = I times E
or E= I squared over R.

Pelosi is an airhead, Palin and Bachman are not, both very smart.
Pelosi got into politics on her daddy's shoestring.  Palin and Bachman
did it on their own shoestrings.  Pelosi is filthy rich.  Palin and
Bachman are not.  The once great Democrat party has become a party of
the rich and snobbish liberal uppercrust class of socialists.
Socialists who want the minions to do the work while they enjoy the
power over them.

Pretty funny to admire Carly Fiorina.  She almost destroyed HP when she
was the CEO, and didn't do much more for Lucent.

I don't care if she lives across the street from you. You knew nothing about

Between your puffs of the pot pipe, read my lips, I knew about her long
before you made your appearance on the NG a few years ago.

Now do you see why I ignore No Bedroom Doug?   I still suspect he's really a
13 year old in a basement somewhere the way he acts. He claims Scott never
served on the Enterprise, but I'd be willing to bet he's never seen a real
DD-214, either.

Apparently Michelle Bachmann did, when she recently said that FDR and
the Democrats passed the "Hoot-Smalley" Act in 1930, when Herbert
Hoover was President:
