I liked Sam Cooke also - MJ wasn't really my usual listening type.  I
remember Charlie Pride doing an interview about one of his first concerts
probably around 1970.  He said he was in Conroe, Texas and came out and told
them "I guess you never seen a country singer that looked like me before?"
I guess he had a real good evening from the way he talked.

Marvin Gaye also did quite well to me.

I played golf with Charlie Pride and his brother-in-law once.  I didn't
know who he was before I met him on the golf course and treated him
like any other person.  He liked that and was especially gracious when
I told him I never heard any of his songs.  He was a very funny man and
we had lots of fun playing golf.  When we returned to the clubhouse
there was a large group of people waiting for him to get autographs.
After they were done I crammed him and his brother-in-law who were two
very big guys and all our clubs into a Nissan Sentra and took them to
their hotel.
