TWO THIRDS of bankruptcies are caused by medical bills.  More than half of that are people with INSURANCE.

It's just not right that a single event can ruin your life.

Someone hits you in an auto accident.  Police determine that "no one is at
fault" so your own insurance needs to pay for your medical bills.  You have
excellent (and expensive) insurance with the standard 80/20.  As you're
sitting in your wheelchair, wishing the rest of the pain would go away, the
bills start coming in.

It's not unusual for one event to cost you $20K WITH good insurance.  It's not
unusual that one event could cost you more than $40K because of the need for a
prosthetic.  Again, that's WITH insurance.  Without insurance you're stuck
with crutches because you really can't afford a knee costing nearly 20K.

It's also not usual for someone to be denied coverage because of a
pre-existing condition.  No matter WHAT that condition is.

We NEED national coverage that doesn't bankrupt you when something completely
beyond your control effects your life.  We NEED to get away from the "This
will be Obama's downfall" crap and say "This will be the time the US takes the
lead in building a GOOD healthcare system where the DOCTORS make the
decisions.

Just once I'd like to see everyone step up and admit it's the right thing to
do.

I've got what is supposed to be good health insurance.  Went to the doc
the other day, he ordered the standard tests for someone my age, I
haven't been getting them done because I can't get a few simple basic
questions answered.  All I wanted to know was, are the tests covered by
my insurance and how much out of pocket am I going to be?   He didn't
know,  the front office didn't know,  they said call the lab and gave me
the number.   Called the lab they didn't know but said to call the
billing dept,  they didn't know gave me another number,  this went on
until I arrived back at the billing dept.   I finally called the doc's
office and told them they might as well go ahead and put a note in my
file and not expect me to get the tests this go around either.
The lady said she would check it out and get back to me,  I haven't
heard from them yet and don't expect to, and six months from now it will
be the same thing.
I am ready for nationalized health care,  I'm not getting much health
care now for a lot of money paid for insurance and I'll take my chances
with anything other than what we now have.

Lab work is a product.

Doctor office care is a product.

Insurance is a product.

Why did you ask the lab and the doctor about a product they're don't sell?
Why not call your insurer? That *always* works for me. Always.

With the option I went with, the first 500 is paid 100%  I want to
stay under the 500 bucks.  I need to know how much the tests will run so
I can stay under the limit.  Also have to allow for a couple of doc
office visits at 75 bucks a pop.

That doesn't answer my question. I wanted to know why you called the plumber
and the well digging company to ask how much steaks were on sale for this
week.

It's not the job of the people at the lab and the people at the doctor's
office to answer questions about how your insurance covers every type of
service. You asked the wrong people. You should've called your insurer. It's
THEIR JOB to explain that information, especially since nobody reads the 20
lb pamphlet which they absolutely received when they signed up for their
insurance.

Why did you ask the wrong people (lab, doctor)?

Moe, he's right. In the end it's your INSURANCE company who decides how much
it will cost you. No one else.  Even if the dr bills them 1000, you might have
to pay 100 or 300, depending on your insurance company.

If your boy Bambi gets his way, a postal employee will decide for you

Matter of fact, I'll get a job with the government and I'll be in

Doesn't matter what I think. My only point is that you snagged the "postal

Where did you steal it from?

Well find out wtf the costs are.

Ask the doctor's billing department how much.

Call your insurance company and find out what they pay.

This is NOT rocket science.

This is NOT a reason to have idiots take over your health care.

I'm telling ya,  I've been there and done that,  I spent over two
hours on the phone punching buttons and sitting on hold.  I can't get an
answer from the doctor, the front office, or the lab, the lab company is
the one that is actually the hold up.  I worked for the gov't and I am
pretty good at getting through bureaucracies but this one is something
else.   I must be the only a.shole that demands to know what this is
gonna cost me when it comes to health care.  It's really a rip off, the
whole thing,  the doc writes the lab tests needed and doesn't give a
damn until I show up 6 months later and the tests aren't done,  so he
tells me the front desk will have the answers.   They don't and don't
care,  they say that's the lab's business and they aren't part of the
office.   Call the lab and told to call billing which is in another
city, and got nothing but a big run around.  I could call the lab people
and ask for a supervisor but I'm going to let the doc do that.
I'll wait for obama to take care of it all,  if he doesn't I'll vote
for the SOB that will.

Once again:  You were asking the wrong people for the information. If you
need to know whether your insurance covers lab tests, you ask your insurance
company. If you don't understand this, it's probably time to think about
giving power of attorney to someone you trust because your situation's only
going to get worse.

The lab will have to be in the PPO system for my insurance to pay what
the lab has agreed to charge them, no problem I can find that out from
the insurance people.  What I need to know is how much the lab tests
will be so I can find out if I have enough left in this years account to
pay for them.  It's that easy, or would be if anyone from the lab would
just answer some simple questions.
Just sign all the papers when you go to a hospital and find out the
hard way what is and what isn't covered by your insurance.  Those
doctors that stuck their head in the door, they will bill you and if
they aren't in the system you get to pay the bill not your insurance.
I ran into this with and anesthesiologist once that wasn't in our
system and I refused to have the procedure until we got it cleared up
front.   Her bill would have been over 700 dollars and that was 10 years
ago.  As it was my insurance did pay 80% maybe all of it because I got
it cleared  first.  By the way that was at an outpatient clinic owned by
several doctors that decided to cut the hospital out of the middle.
Want to talk about those radiologist bills that float in a few weeks
or months after a visit to the hospital?
People complain about taxes and cost of car repairs but they are
afraid to question or raise hell about our sorry health care system.
And yes, I would go to another country for health care, a lot of
Americans do, it's cheaper, better and the nurses don't have tattoos.

If I actually cared, I'd poke around snopes, which is where the vast
majority of the drunk's claims get debunked. They usually include the phrase
"various versions of an email have been circulating".

The problem with their claims, as I mentioned already, is that I'm
experiencing this mess firsthand, so i can say without a doubt that they're
completely full of sh.t.

I really do have the best insurance money can buy and I'm STILL going to be
hit with more than 40K in bills.  I shouldn't have to pay a penny for medical
bills.  it should be a perk for living in what they claim is the greatest
country in the world.

It will cost everybody more.  Some, maybe like you who doesn't like to
pay for health insurance, a little more.

For the rest of us who responsibly pay for our health care already, it
will cost us a lot MORE.  I say BULLSHIT to that!!

Who says I don't like to pay for it?  Did you read what I wrote above?  GOOD
COVERAGE isn't cheap but GOOD COVERAGE isn't COMPLETE COVERAGE.   What part of
that don't you understand?  What part of "people covered under insurance still
need to file bankruptcy because they can't pay the bills" don't you
understand?"

No, for singles making nearly 300K/year it'll cost some more.  I'm sure the
story above didn't make it quite clear, but I'm living that story right now.
Were I a little less well off, I'd be f.cked.  As it is now, I can see where
someone making less than 100K/year ANYTHING less than 100K/year would be
ruined by what I'm going through.  People with NO insurance are what's costing
you and me money.

Hi,

As a UK resident with a certainly not perfect but pretty damn good for most
folks most of the time National Health Service I would say this to you.

You people live in a society that generally speaking considers it's self to
be one of the best and most advanced in the world.

The medical reality of your country in terms of healthcare for those without
lots of Dollars is that they would be better of in some third world
countries than they are in the good ol US of A.

Perhaps taking the millions of Dollars you give to Israel each year and
spending it on available & affordable health care for your own people
instead would be money well redirected.

If you want to see some hard factd look at World Health Organisation Data at

http://www.photius.com/rankings/healthranks.html

http://www.photius.com/rankings/healthy_life_table2.html

http://www.photius.com/rankings/total_health_expenditure_as_pecent_of_gdp_2000_t
o_2005.html

This data shows you that a lot of US Dollars are spent on healthcare but
that is not reflected in life expectancy or standard of health care.

To put it blunty when it comes to healthcare the average US citizens is
being F....kd over well and truly.

For example you guys spend nearly double the GDP % compared to the UK but
your life expectancy in us ranked 24 versus 14 for UK.

Overall health care ranking for UK is 24, USA is 72 (with Iraq at 75 and
Nicaragua at 73, nuff said I guess).

Share and enjoy the data, Obama often talks a lot of B.S. in my view, but he
is totally spot on on this particular issue.

Regards

The repulsivecans will ignore the true data in favor of their spin.  They
still can't explain how they find it acceptable that middle class families are
going bankrupt to pay medical bills __IF__ they live.   The very rich can
afford cancer treatments to live.  The middle class get to die.  As you said
