When voting on a bill, only the number of votes is important.  Party
affiliation is irrelevant.  Correct?

Correct. In many votes, Representatives and Senators cross party
lines.

52 Democrats (with brains) that are called the Blue Dog Democrats.
Something akin to "Reagan Democrats". They don't vote the party line, but
actually think before casting votes. I think I saw one thumbing his nose
at Nancy P. this afternoon.

Whatever happened to the cup of coffee, Jeff?

I was down REAL close to you today; same town, as a matter of fact, near a
college for girls.

Offer remains. Chicken?

I am not near a college for girls.

In fact, I won't be on the East Coast in a couple of days.

Sure it's important.  In many cases their vote is dependant upon
promised certain committee memberships and/or rankings.  It's all about
remaining in power first then gaining more power.

My (rhetorical) question was about whether affiliation was important
for the passing of a bill.  It had nothing to do with the careers of
the members, or with anything else.

If you watch C-SPAN, the overall votes are counted, and the breakdown is
Yea     Nay      R     D

Yes, it is only the NUMBER of votes counted that determine ratification.

It seems you're trying to drive a point home; what is it?

Come one, man.  I don't need to remind you what "rhetorical" means, do
I?

> It seems you're trying to drive a point home; what is it?

I thought it was obvious, but...

If both republicans AND democrats are blocking the bill, why do the
headlines always say "democrats block health care plan" ?   That claim
would make the naive think that the repubs were for it, and it's
actually the Dems who are against it.  It's misleading.  That's all.

Because the Democrat have enough members of their own party in Congress to
pass in both the House and the Senate. The reason the headlines (You've
been watching Fox again, you sly dog!) is because there are 52 Democrats
that do NOT think the President's proposal is the greatest thing since
sliced bread, and want it at least revised, if not scrapped. So, they are
not pledging their votes. Really pisses ol' Nancy off, doesn't it?! I
thought she was going to pop a vein the other day at her 'Press
conference'. After her last 'press conference', I'm surprised she got up
and spoke at all. "A ba-de, a be-de, that's all, folks!"

And Harry Reid?!?! OMG!!! He said, Don't expect a vote before recess!
Could it be he's got a living brain cell? Nah, I bet he's being paid by
the insurance cos.

And if one watches C-SPAN, one would know that Congress does more than
ratify things. In fact, the House of Representatives doesn't ratify a
thing. However, they do vote on bills and other matters.
