RIYADH (Reuters) - A Saudi court of cassation upheld a ruling to behead
and crucify a 22-year-old man convicted of raping five children and
leaving one of them to die in the desert, newspapers reported on
Tuesday.

The convict was arrested earlier this year after a seven-year old boy
helped police in their investigation. The child left in the desert
after the rape was three years old, Okaz newspaper said.

International rights groups have accused the kingdom, the birthplace of
Islam, of applying draconian justice, beheading murderers, rapists and
drug traffickers in public. So far this year about 40 people have been
executed in Saudi Arabia.

In Saudi Arabia, crucifixion means tying the body of the convict to
wooden beams to be displayed to the public after beheading.

gruesome.  I wonder if all that, chopping off heads etc really helps
deter future crimes, maybe, who knows.  Just think, in a few decades or
less, islamic rule will be here in the U.S. and women will have to cover
their faces or else, criminals will get their heads chopped off and even
minor thieves will find themselves minus hands and fingers, even eyes.

You'll be one of the first to have your head loped off for misuse of
your brain.  You'll also be one of the first converts if American
Islam promises to do all the things the Neo-Cons want to do.  All the
Islamists have to say is they are privatizing Social Security, doing
away with Medicare, and cutting taxes and you'll be praying to mecca
on your very own custom-made prayer rug.

Ed uses the MSNBC buzzword! That's the secret word for the day!

Is all the furniture in your room screaming like on PeeWee's Playhouse?

It didn't keep him from doing what he did,  locks keep honest people

One thing for sure, he won't be doing it again.

Since they're still cutting off heads, it apparently isn't such a great
deterrent to new offenders. Not so different from our own approach to
prevention using stiff penalties. The real solutions lie with upbringing, if
any.

So what do you do with the offenders?

Obviously, cut off their heads, since they've already done the crime. But
nothing will change unless societies keep kids away from influences which
f.ck them up. Or at least that's what Bill Cosby said, and I agree with him.

Of course the _real_ solutions lie with upbringing. But beheading is an
excellent second best solution. Especially when dead children are strewn
around the desert.

Of course, there are certain "organized factors" which may give people the
idea that it's OK to commit crimes like that. Hopefully, mankind will
eventually evolve to the point where these "organized factors" are seen for
what they really are: A joke perpetrated mostly by men who wear dumb hats &
robes.

Are you saying that religion condones raping and murdering children?

That's interesting. I'd like you to give citations. Maybe you could cite
Islamic sources since an Islamic judge has ordered the execution of the guy
that raped and murdered children.

I see, you're full of crap. That's what I thought.

There is no social acceptance anywhere in the known universe that says
children should be raped and murdered and left in the desert.

I'm busy now, but I'm trying to recall where in the bible it explicitly says
that the elders of a village should stone a kid to death for being "wayward"
or some such thing. "Wayward" would be a great description for any normal
teenager.

That's not the discussion.

YOU said, "Of course, there are certain "organized factors" which may give

YOU said that religion condones raping and murdering children.

Not directly. But it empowers people to do some very strange things, like
run over a daughter whose styleee isn't what daddy thinks it should be.

The RELIGION does not condone that. The moron that does such a thing might
wrap it in religion, but that does not mean that the religion condones it.

But, you've changed the subject. We were talking about the death penalty for
a guy that raped and murdered multiple children, not a guy that got pissed
at his own daughter for not embracing his view of what's important in life.

Please try and remain on the topic that YOU initiated. Personally, I have no
confidence that you have the ability to remain on your own topic.

Religion creates an atmosphere which weak-minded people interpret in ways
which are obnoxious, antisocial or sometimes illegal.

Obnoxious: I had a lunatic (fundamentalist) neighbor who verbally abused his
wife all day long (loud enough for the neighbors to hear). One day, I asked
him how he justified this. He said the bible designated that the man was the
head of the household and that women were subservient. He was serious. He
actually though the bible empowered him to treat his wife like trash.

He's now the head of his own crappy studio apartment and his subservient
wife got his house when she divorced him. His car, too.

I don't care about ANY of that horseshit. All I want is a citation that
condones raping and murdering children in the name of religion. YOU said
that religion says this is okay, I want to know where in ANY religion this
is true.

I'd be particularly interested in a citation from the religion that is
calling for some shithead to be executed for this, but I'll take any, that's
A-N-Y citation you can give.

HINT
This would be a good time for you to say there is no such citation.

Correction: You don't like hearing the truth.

Religion creates an atmosphere which weak-minded people interpret in ways
which are obnoxious, antisocial or sometimes illegal.

That might be true (I do not accept the premise, but I'll go with it for the
moment), but it's not the assertion you made and are yet to support.

Joe, they're brought up with "An eye for an eye".

Or worse.

I still like the Honor Killings. Especially the one where the eldest son
gets to cast the first stone at his mother in the event she is raped. That
makes a lot of sense.
