1997 Avalon Keyless remote

I have a 1997 Avalon XLS with the factory installed keyless entry system.
I bought this car as a replacement for a totaled 1996 Avalon XLS.
The '97 came with no keyless remote.  I figured I could use the remotes from
the '96.

The alarm system appears to be the same on both cars.  Just a flashing red
light near the radio.

The remote model FCC ID GQ43VT7T.
Does anyone have any info on how to program this remote?

Any help you could provide would be appreciated.

The dealer wants 50 bucks to do the programming.

Thanks

There was a series of posts on programming remotes a few months back in this
NG. As I recall, you need to do a real chicken dance (hitting the buttons,
openning/closing the door, inserting key twice, etc.)

Try a Google groups search...

Yes I am sure it is a "chicken dance".
I have looked thru Google and I simply cannot find the correct chicken dance
for a 1997.

I though maybe some guru Toyota Tech would be here and give me the goods.

Thanks

Yes, a "chicken dance" is required for reprogramming.

If you join the Yahoo Group Toyotas_Only, you can access a "chicken dance"
file for the '04 Avalon remote, which may *possibly* work...

I am a moderator at Toyotas_Only. If you join and request it, I can see if
I can get instructions for the '97.

You can get it yourself at http://techinfo.toyota.com, but it'll cost you
$10 (one-day subscription) to do it. That site is run by Toyota, not by
Yahoo.

You've just been approved. Now I just have to wait a bit for that file.

Might take a day or so.

No Problem.
I just appreciate your help.

I will keep checking for a reply to my post in Toyotas_Only and here.

Thanks again

John Galt, check the Yahoo group. The programming instructions are posted
in a reply to your request message.

I'll be adding it permanently to the Files section eventually.

Tegger

Thanks so much.  I will give it a try over the weekend and report back.
I do appreciate your effort.

This is what I've been told, also goto Automotiveforums.com and search.

1. Remove key from ignition
2. Locate bulb failure warning module in truck near left trunk
hinge and disconnect electrical connector.
3. Jump pins 2 & 10 of connector with short wire or paper clip
4. Door locks will cycle
5. Press any button on remote keyless entry entry transmitter
6. Door locks will cycle
7. Repeat steps 5 & 6 for another transmitter
8. Remove jumper from connector and reconnect to module
