Dear MoveOn member,

On Sunday morning, Christian Coalition founder Pat Robertson told TV
viewers nation-wide that the threat posed by liberal judges is
"probably more serious than a few bearded terrorists who fly into
buildings." When an incredulous George Stephanopoulos asked if
Robertson really believed that these judges posed "the most serious
threat America has faced in nearly 400 years of history, more serious
than al Qaeda, more serious than Nazi Germany and Japan, more serious
than the Civil War?," he responded, "George, I really believe that."

These comments were not made in isolation. In fact, Robertson's
statement is only the most outrageous example of a growing effort from
the extreme right to whip up an intense fear and hatred of American
judges — including comments from Republican congressmen and senators
intimidating, threatening and even justifying outright violence
against judges.  The strategy is designed to build support for the
Republican "nuclear" scheme to break the rules and stack the courts —
and it is poisonous to our democracy. It must stop here.

That's why we are launching a national petition demanding that Bill
Frist and Tom DeLay publicly reject Robertson's statement. If they do,
it will send a clear signal that this type of dangerous incitement
against officers of the law is not welcome in our democracy. And if
they don't, it will send an equally clear signal about how far they
are willing to go.
---------------

Boy we have the LLL'ers on the run and getting crazier and crazier as
time goes on!!!

They appear to be speaking only to themselves.  It's sad to see the
democrat party has degraded to such a low state from what it was in the
sixties and before.  A party of the people is now a party of the
disgruntled whiners.  They have no plan, no ideas and no followers.

Pretty damn sick isnt it! Anyone who says the threat of Liberal Judges is
more of a threat than Terrorists flying planes into buildings has some
serious mental issues. Thats about as un-patriotic as you can get. Anyone
who agrees with such a thing should be shipped straight out of this country.

How much more proof does anyone need that Scott is a complete asshat?

He doesn't care how much is needed, he keeps supplying it.

There's quite a bit you don't know, neoon.

Lawmakers yesterday forced what was originally known as the Real ID
bill through the House of Representatives; it's scheduled to pass the
Senate next week. Didn't hear much debate over this sweeping bill
before it passed? That's because there wasn't any. This version of the
Real ID Act never received a hearing in either chamber of Congress. In
a particularly odious trick, it was tacked on to the $82 billion
supplemental appropriations bill which was designed to fund U.S.
troops in Iraq. That bill must pass; thus the Real ID Act gets a free
ride without any serious or conscientious discussion. The New York
Times sharply criticizes the maneuver, saying, "Attaching a bad bill
to a vital one is a sneaking business, making it nearly impossible for
thoughtful members of Congress to vote against it." The legislation
does little to keep Americans safe; nothing in the bill involves major
reform to immigration policies. Instead it's a poorly conceived, hasty
piece of legislation which targets asylum seekers, puts a huge burden
on states to clean up a federal mess and grants overreaching powers to
the Department of Homeland Security.

SHIFTING THE BURDEN OF PROOF: Thanks to the Real ID Act, it will
become more difficult for people persecuted for their religious
beliefs to receive asylum in the United States. The legislation shifts
the burden of proof of persecution onto the shoulders of applicants.
For example, it requires documented evidence of torture, something
"people on the run rarely have." (As the ACLU put it, that's like
asking "asylum seekers to prove what amounts to … a note from their
persecutor.") As a result, many refugees tortured, raped and
brutalized on the basis of their race, national origin or political
opinions would be turned away.

You say a lots of dumb stuff in this NG all the time as well.
You can say dumb stuff if you want.  You like him
do not hold an elective public office, so you can say all the
dumb stuff you want, it is still a free country.

When did Pat Robertson post to USENet let alone this group.  The
f.cking neocon said it on nation-wide TV and neocons believe it as
gospel.

>You can say dumb stuff if you want.  You like him
>do not hold an elective public office,

Fortunately, he only ran for office.  He wasn't elected.

>so you can say all the dumb stuff you want, it is still a free country.

Are you suggesting people in office can't say dumb stuff?  Better get
the shrub out of office now.  That fool's been spouting garbage for
years.

I'm still surprised it doesn't bother you that people can actually
believe that having a liberal judge is worse than murdering innocent
people.

You can't believe it? I can, I've known for a long time these neocons are
pretty sick people. As much as they want to hide thier hate, racism,
bigotry, it all comes out at some point.

More and more people are seeing that now.  It's sad that it has taken
so long.
