Sienna power door

I have a 2000 Sienna.  The power door sticks open and has to be disabled to
close.  When you push the buttons to close, it just clicks but will not
move.  This has been going on for 3 years, and most of the time we just
leave it off.  The problem is intermittent, and we have had a hard time
reproducing it for the dealer.  However, the one time the dealer has seen it
malfunction, they did something with the internal cable and charged $200.
The next day it started sticking again.  Although it appears to be a
manufacturing defect, the dealer will not try anything expensive, so we have
been without a power door for most of the time we have owned it.

Any suggestions?

Fire your dealer.

I would contact Customer Care (get the number from their web site) and
open a 'trouble ticket' on it. They will determine if it is a defect or
just a 5 year old van...

What does this mean?  Are you saying our beloved Toyotas are turning
into Chevrolets?  Hmmm, this might explain why the quality is feeling
cheaper lately.

No matter what happens someone will find a way to take it too seriously.

I've been told the early Siennas used a different MFG for the door
mechanicals.  The 04 and later are better quality.  By the way in over a
year and a half I've not had one mechanical issue except the recalled
radiator of which mine was NOT leaking.  My only trips to the garage are
for oil changes.  My Sienna is just as tight and rattle free as the day
I drove it off the lot.  I cannot and could not say the same for my 94
Caravan, within weeks I had that thing back for rattles, sqeaks and
creaks.  The plastic panels were coming loose and the pop out windows
creaked like an old three masted sailing ship.

Dbu,

Do you live in a place where the road is smooth and has no potholes? In
NewYork City I cant believe that a Sienna can stay just as tight and rattle
free as the day it was driven off the lot.

Which plastic panels were coming loose and what is the pop windows?

Thanx,
E.

Those were on the 94 Dodge Caravan.  Above the passenger sliding cargo
door and the pop out window behind the drivers seat also the popout
window on the sliding door.  They all made creaking noises, I never
could get any of that fixed by Dodge.  I used some larger screws in the
panels and that worked for a time, but it always came back.  Good luck.

We live in a snow bound area half the year and lots of pot holes, I try
to avoid them.  I am telling the truth when I say my Sienna is as tight
and rattle free as the day I drove it off the dealer lot.  Cross my
heart and hope to die, or how ever that old saying goes, LOL.....

I'm not a salesman either, LOL.  I just believe in my 04 Sienna, so far
it's a super rig.

Dbu~^  <=== nice to put a face to a name <LOL>

I believe u with the hole of my heart... ooops with the whole heart..

Would you say the same about the Honda Oddy See?

We (me and my hubby) were looking on the Honda before we do our final move
to BUY the Sienna, for some reason the Honda has some appeal but the Toyota
Sienna is always mind above heart. The Sienna comes across to be more
serious and a tiny bit more reliable. Your message weighs down on the Sienna
side. Although I still think that the Ody has some things that the Sienna
can learn from.

Thanks for your sharing. I appreciate it.

We are considering the LE pkg#6 with Burlwood dashboard. Or can we get from
a cheaper place than the dealer?

I can't honestly say anything much about the Honda other than I looked
at one before I bought the Sienna.  I thought it was a very well put
together vehicle, but I had my mind made up already and the Sienna was a
bit bigger inside so that's the way I went.  The Honda is very good and
had the new Sienna not come out I'd most likely be driving a Ody.  Be
sure you drive them both before you buy.  I drove the Sienna three
different days including freeway and city driving.  Some folks don't
like the way the Sienna throttle feels, that may or may not be an issue
with you, but a heads up to pay attention to that when you drive both
vehicles.  Also some say the ride of the Honda is a bit more sporty so
that's another thing to watch for, by sporty I mean the ride is a bit
more harsh.  Engine response should be about the same.  The repair bill
on a rear end low speed crash will cost you more on the Honda, per
Consumer Reports.  It was quite a bit more than the Sienna.  Otherwise
it boils down to which one you like better and the gaget factor.  I'm
not a big on all that stuff but I've come to really like the power
sliding side door.

Good luck

The first gen Seinna used a GM slider ass'y. The current is Toyota sown.
Should be bullet proof.
