How do you turn off the headlights on a 2005 Toyota Corolla manual?

G - 26 Oct 2005 18:08 GMT My friend just got a 2005 Toyota Corolla. The title says it all. For the life of him, he can't figure it out. He says they are automatic and no controls...
I have a very good reason as to why the headlights needs to be shut off at night. It's because of a astronomy club meeting. We have to drive out on a field. The cars lights ruin night vision. Also other people taking night photography. Bright lights are bad and can ruin there image....

Mark - 26 Oct 2005 18:59 GMT There are several ways to do it permanently, but the fastest/easiest is to stop the car, turn it off and engage the emergency brake one click before you restart the car. You can drive like that, at least a short distance into or out of the star party, without hurting the effectiveness of the brake. Once you are out, release the brake and the lights will come on.

They are called "Daytime Running Lights", or "DRLs". You're obviously new here, because DRLs are a VERY hot political subject, especially in this group.
I can send you a Toyota TSB on disabling them. If you join the Yahoo group Toyotas_Only (I'm a Moderator), you can see that TSB, as well as two different disablement methods posted by members.
For even more (including the TSB), see the famous "Lights Out" site: http://www.lightsout.org/disable.html (Go down to TOYOTA, about 2/3 of the way down)

There's also the "how I got sucked into believing DRLs are a safely feature" section. Tooo funny.

For something like this, it might just be easiest to pull the fuse(s) on those occasions when you want the lights out, especially if the fuse box is in the passenger compartment. You might try to find a way to make it easy to identify the particular fuse(s) you want to pull (a dot of nail polish or something).
Pop the fuse(s), start up, drive a little way on marker lights until you're clear of the site, then put the fuse(s) back in. The organizers might consider marking the path in and out with those reflectors-on-a-stick.
Or just park a little further away and walk in. Admittedly, not so easy if heavy equipment needs to be carried in and out.

BTW, how did you make out earlier this week. Hasn't seemed to slow you down much!! ;)

Minor power outages, but nothing like last year. I feel for the people in south FL, but at least the weather is nice, not like last year after Frances, a sweltering week without power was MISERABLE.

I see there are a LOT of Democrats in South Florida.
The great governor Bush tells us....have at least three days food and water.
The f*ing Demorats in South Florida are bitchin' cause they don't have all the free food and water in ONE DAY!
Amazing.

Mark - 27 Oct 2005 15:36 GMT Yeah, I've heard those reports too... good thing the weather's nice, else there might be riots ala N.O.
Too many democrats down there to expect them to make do for themselves... sad in a way. People used to take pride in doing it w/o the govt.

the "necessities" of like ice, AC and electricity - or running water. At Boy Scout camp, we went a week under these conditions and the boys loved it! It rained and the yellow ponchos grew black dots and there were mosquitos, but they all want to do it again. One group did it for two weeks and hiked over 50 mile with full packs. Imagine how it easy it would be if you did not have to carry everything on your back for 50 miles and you had running water :-)

Their parents didn't use their 'choice' at the right time....I'd say ;-)

Naples is mostly new construction and very rich.

The BAD side of the storm is the bottom.
The hurricane hit below Naples.

Mark - 28 Oct 2005 01:02 GMT Minor correction... the bad side of the storm is USUALLY the South side if it's heading East, North side if it's heading West, East side if it's heading North, West side if it's heading South (which they rarely do)

Wilma was headed East....and the South side was the dirty side.

So Scott, why are you trying to teach me about hurricanes?...to start with, I'm not a Yankee, and we don't have any hurricanes here, a bit of wind occasionally, like 30 50 MPH is pretty unusual. You can keep that 145 MPH sh.t down there thank you... --
