Whine in a manual transmission is generally caused by either a worn or bad
bearing or worn gears. Another symptom of worn gear is the transmisison
popping out of gear. Try changing the transmission fluid and see if things
quiet down. You should get prices, but it may be less expensive to replace
the bearings than to replace it.

When you changed the oil, were there any metal particles in it? How about
on the drain plug?
