Hi

Anybody out there got any experience towing/living  with the new Nissan
Pathfinder.

Thinking of changing cars soon, currently driving a Volvo XC70, excellent
car but after 5 Volvos I just fancy a change.

Any comments appreciated.

Thanks.

I seriously considered buying one - but after waiting 6 months for any
(reasonable) discounts to become available I couldn't wait ant longer and
decided to buy something else.

I cannot understand how Nissan can command full list price for these  - I
have only seen 3 on the road since they were launched - I can't see demand
being that great, especially as reviews have been less than glowing.

Hi Stu

I know what you mean. Out of interest what did you end up buying?

I came very close to buying a landcruiser a couple of times but decided that
I need the 7 seats more than the 4WD so I bought a Mazda5 would you believe!

It has traction control which will help with my light off-road excursions
plus I still have some money left in the bank. No good for towing though.

If the Pathfinder was made in Japan rather than Spain (reliability/build
quality) I may have considered paying full price for one.

Hi Stu

Quite liked the landcruiser although a bit expensive, one of the reasons for
going for the Nissan is that we have dogs and the Pathfinder has the
tailgate and opening rear window.

Talking of having money left in the bank I'm going to have a look at the Kia
Sorento tomorrow  which has just been voted 'Tow Car of the Year' by the
caravan Club.
It seems to get as good a report as most and is slightly cheaper. Only
problem possibly is it's resale value 3 years down the line.

Hi I was looking at both Pathfinder and landcruisers. I ended up with the
Shogun 3.2 Lwb DID. Bit heavy on the juice, but don't even  know the
caravans on the back! (1770kg)

As they say, it will pull a house out of quicksand lol...

Good luck!

Hi Andy

What made you go for the Shogun over the others?

Price I should imagine. There are some excellent deals to be had on the
Shogun at present. This is probably due to a new model being just around the
corner. I found the diesel engine to be unrefined and agricultural, also
there was excessive body lean when cornering. Auto box is very good, though.

Hi Stu

I didn't know a new Shogun was due, any idea when?

Still rather fancy the Pathfinder but a couple of reports I've read lately
say it's underpowered and sluggish, Caravan Club Tow Car of the Year test
being one of them.
I find this a bit odd as the Pathfinder  bhp/ torque figures (171/297) seem
to be good with a 0-60 time of around 11.7 seconds which seems better than
the
Kia Sorento 138 /343 0-60 14.6 secs. which they voted Tow car of the Year!
I did have a test drive of the Pathfinder but that was only in busy traffic
around town. I shall  definitely have to have another with a bit of motorway
included.

When I first posted this I was hoping to hear from somebody who has towed
with one  (apart from  the CC testing panel) to see how they found it.

dont know about this one but when i was looking for a ute, nissan couldnt be
bothered about even giving me any info, 'its on the net' was the answer.
they didnt have them in the showroom so therefore not interested. so they
can shove there datsuns up their bums, i bought a mitsi.

I was really impressed with all aspects of the Pathfinder during my hour
long test drive. I drove the showroom model (when the salesman eventually
managed to squeeze it out of the showroom) as the demonstrator I had
originally arranged to drive was in the hands of the sales manager.
Apparently his licence only covered automatics and this was the only auto
they had! However, this was the only time I have been placed under any
pressure to buy following a test drive (from any manufacturer) and it really
put me off. That and the fact that most of the sales staff were young men
with silly haircuts.

I was getting confused - new Mitsubishi is the Outlander
(www.jalopnik.com/cars/mitsubishi/index.php) but a new Shogun/Pajero can't
be far off.

Regards

Stu.

Hi again

I bought it, because its a bit of a work horse. Price was not the factor,
because I still paid a few quid for the my 12month warrior model(8000miles).
It does look the part with its 285/18 wheels and tyres etc etc....

Ideal car for caravanning I thought...just pull off the mud with ease!

Good look with your searching. Wouldn't be without ours :-)
