I recon that the Pajero is worth about £750 with a six month MOT or £400
without, while the Suzuki is worth a maximum of £1500 if you can find anyone
who wants it.

It's far too old to make £3500 and the servicing and condition makes it
worth far more to you than anyone else. It is from this point on that you
are likely to get the full value out of it. Everyone else will see just
another 14 year old car that could fail the MOT and cost a fortune to run
for the limited time left in it.
Ultimately any car is worth what someone will pay for it, so good luck. If
it were me I would keep it and run it until it was not worth running any
more, then scrap it. Mechanically it should be good for at least another 50k
miles or double that if you cover a high mileage. Change the Suzuki or just
sell it. That's what I would do but YMMV.

There are a few sharks out there that I would avoid but buying something
around ten years old or more is a bit of a lottery. Most new vehicle dealers
will take them back as part exchanges and trade them to an auction ASAP to
turn them into cash. I have had good experience with private individuals in
the past. Try some on'line advertisers like auto trader which you can also
buy in your newsagent. If you wish to p/x the Suzuki then remember that
there is no point in a trader doing a deal unless he grosses at least a
Grand in the deal. That is how he makes a living and he has costs to deduct
from that. Best bet may be to sell that privately as well.

I suspect that your paj will be worth peanuts in part-ex. However, you
should be able to get just under £2,000 in a private sale if in good nick.
FWIW, this is from a quick search on Autotrader, where ones with 60k-70k on
the clock were going for £2,000 to £2,750.
That said, you could check Autotrader for your area.

You could try the owners club (http://www.pocuk.com/) which has a "for
sale" and "wanted" section and some classifieds. IIRC you can view these if
you don't log in - but you'll need to register and make at least ten "non-
frivolous" posts in other sections before you can post in "for sale" or
"wanted".
TBH, if you have one Pajero and are thinking of buying another, you should
really consider joining the club. It's free for basic membership, some very
knowledgeable people post in the technical forums, there are club meetings
to suit everyone (from dedicated mudpluggers to the shiniest of the shiny),
and there is even a club insurance scheme (that has saved me lots).

As someone who is looking for a nice Shogun at the moment, I can tell you
that shogun/pajero prices are on the floor. And the two models most
struggling for buyers are the 2.5 diesel and 3.0 petrol - most people look
for the 2.8 diesel.
As for the adverts in autotrader - I've seen some of them in there for four
months now. Don't assume they're selling! The best way to get a feel for
the market is to see what things are actually selling for - eBay can be a
good way of doing this - look under 'completed items'.
