Maybe this has be done to death here but I am still amazed that the
f"%!ing gv't can lump my 1598cc 4cyl petrol Suzuki  in with all the
bastard/f-off Cayennes/X5's etc

I return upwards of 35mpg around town and actually need a 4x4 as am in
the country and have a drive like the North face of the Eiger...

Same engine in a saloon, no tax...

Oh and I have no kids...

Bastards Bastards Bastards.........

I did write to Suzuki and get them motivated to try and overturn this
category for their sales sake, but they just caved in to it...
stupidly - I'll not buy a 4x4 again.

<sigh>

Here we go again...

IT'S NOTHING TO DO WITH IT BEING 4x4...

If your car is pre March 2001, then the ONLY tax split is 1550cc.
If your car is post March 2001, then the tax split is on the official CO2
emissions.

They don't.  The tax band is separated on age, engine size, and then
only in cars later than some recent date, on emissions band, nothing
to do with whether it's a 4x4 or not.

No tax in a saloon?  You are in fantasy land.

Mercifully.

Great!

If you want to fight fantasy monsters, try World of Warcraft.
