Thanks chaps - Englebert got it right and I really don't need it set up as
it is already so - it is hanging onto about half a ton of cast iron keel in
my boat - I want to lower the keel but it isn't letting me! I know these
winches are used for recovery hence my postings to the 4X4 world as well as
the UK Sailing fraternity.
Ah well, off to the sailing club I go this morning and sort things - many

if you have that much load on it, it will require some jerk on the reversing
lever to get it to unlatch.
