Hi there,
I am in desperate need of help. I have had my frontera 2.4l petrol engine
skimmed & tested for a gasket change. The garage who are doing the work
gave the engine a good once over while it was apart and are happy with the
overall condition.
They discovered that a nylon "distributor drive" which sits in the engine
that the cog from the distributor sits in was about ready to disintegrate.
Was not a problem until we then discovered that Vauxhall have discontinued
the part and can't find one anywhere.
This was VAUXHALL PART 8930228 and described on their CD as "worm, gear,
dist drive"
I would have got a recon engine at the start but all the partfinder searches
and local engine reconditioners reckon they are hard to find.
I am therefore up sh** creek. Either I find this part or find a whole new
engine (and take the loss of the skin and test which was already done) or
maybe even scrap the car (would be gutted as it also has an LPG conversion
and seams a bit excessive just for a small part.)
Can anyone help or point me in the right direction.
Any help or advice would be gratefully received.
Thanks in advance
Neil Jones

Hummm, if its the Isuzu engine you might do better trying them?

Take the old part to an engineering shop and get them to make one in
steel .. gotta be cheaper than a recon engine

I had something like this disintegrate on an old vauxhall (camshaft
drive to the dizzy) but simply made one up using a bit of steel & a pin.

I think this engine is the same as the 2.2 and 2 litre fitted to Manta, and
Omega/Rekord and the 3 litre Senator/Carlton/Monza engine has the same front
cover. Knowing Vauxhall parts system they will give each engine a different
part number for the same part.
Cheers
