Why three earths though ???

The switch has double contacts so you need seperate earths for up and down.
The other one could be for bulb.

If they're both earths, they're both connected together anyway.

Are we talking earth or negative here? Two different things if you are
wanting a DC motor to rotate both ways.

NOt on a positive earth car they aren't.
More to the point, on a window motor you switch the earth/negative between
wires & the live between wires to make it go up or down. Did anybody ever
make a positive earth car with electric windows?

it probably makes the switch cheaper to make.
