Swapping over front seats today on the Capper as I've been putting a
Recaro interior in. Gets to the last bolt on the passenger one at the
rear on the sill side and it shears off which didn't come as a surprise
TBH and one I was prepared for. However it came accompanied with that
crunching sound that fills all classic car owners with dread...the
sound that only rust giving away can make....

I have a push around the mount and sure enough, it's making the noise
when I press on there. I crawl underneath it and where the
strengthening plate is that the bolt goes through, it's rusted right
through along one edge - can see bloody daylight through it. It looks
like the seat mounting point is going to be the place where it gets its
first ever plate on the underside. Gutted. I put the other three bolts
back in with a bit of coppaslip on so at least they'll come out easily
when it goes in for welding.

The only good part about it is it's the passenger seat so it won't be
my fat backside sat on it and it should be OK for Classic Ford Show at
Santa Pod next week for the missus to use. Need to look at event dates
now to figure out when I can get it booked in somewhere.

The only saving grace is that if I whip the seat out and move the
carpet out of the way, it's an hour or two tops to do the job. Sods law
dictates that my mate who has the welder has f.cked off to Spain for 6
months and left it locked up in his garage.

There is a £99 gasless 130amp turbomig coming up at Aldi on Thursday,
and cheap 2 roll gasless wire.

Can anybody explain to non-welding me how you can have a gasless MIG? I
thought that was the whole point?

Uses a coated wire which gives off the gas when heated. Much higher
running costs than a 'conventional' one though.

OTOH no bottle hire so I suppose it could be cheaper for the average joe who
welds once in a blue moon.

Think it's more expensive than using disposable bottles.
