Run this up yer flagpole matey .

The places that fit tyres havent changed in design since the dark ages
and the motorist certainly doesnt enjoy it when somebody takes the wheel
of your car and then disappears for x amount of time - possibly to even
work on another car .

When I say 'work' above - I mean disable your car so you cant drive away
from the big chain stores if you get fed up waiting and hanging around .

As for a actual business model i've no idea if it would work or if it
would make a profit to stay in business - but I know as a motorist if
such a place existed it would probably be my first choice .

Stay in the car and listen to the radio etc & no need to walk to a
counter and then sit in one of those zombie like waiting rooms .

I would imagine there would be a couple of customer seats between the
two drive bays in the middle .

A winner or a turkey ??? .

It's almost defiantly in the insurance to say they should keep customers out of
"work" areas. Smaller places are often more friendly anyway they will often let
you watch them work so long as you keep a safe distance from what they are doing
as quite a few don't have enough room to put you out of the way.

Would imagine each tyre bay would have its own compressor and wheel
balance machine and would be at the far left and the far right .

2 of each would be needed anyway in case one broke down .

Although technical points are good - i'm curious if other motorists
would think of it as their first choice option and would use it if they
wanted a puncture fixed or needed a new tyre .

Hard to say, I like the idea if it could be competitively priced.

I'm a company car driver, and I have to go where the fleet people let me
go - that might be quite a major consideration, getting all the fleet
departments or 3rd party fleet management companies to use you.

I take it you've never visited Micheldever Tyres.
What you've drawn is virtually their layout, and they work almost as you've
explained.

I wouldn't know. I live over 20 miles away.

Again. I wouldn't know.
Maybe I should explain. They have very competitive prices, especially on
premium and performance tyres. In the past I've saved  as much as £30 on an
£80-90 tyre. I've only been there maybe half a dozen times over the years
I've been using them.
The last time I went, about a year ago, there were probably about 10 cars in
the queue, which stayed fairly constant as newcomers replaced those that
left.
It was like a production line, with 2 or 3 cars being worked on at the same
time.
As I neared the head of the queue, I was asked what I wanted. Tyre make, air
pressure etc, which was noted. The reason being that the tyres are kept in a
separate building, so they make sure they're on hand for the fitters.
When it was my turn, I was directed onto a marked out area on the floor of
the fitting area. then asked to leave the car, and wait outside the actual
work area.
There appeared to be 2-3 fitters on each car. One maybe jacking the car
whilst another removed the wheel, which was then taken into the actual tyre
fitting bay, where another guy fitted the tyre. As that one was finished,
he'd get the second wheel, whilst the first one was refitted to the car etc
etc.
All very polished, and they got through the cars quite quickly. Only a few
minutes on average for each car.
That was the last time. In the past I've been there, when I've been the only
car in the fitting area. They still work quite quickly, but in a much more
relaxed manner.
TBH, I think their system only works if you have high volume sales.
Micheldever have that because they offer tyres considerably cheaper than
most national tyre chains, so much so, that it pays many of their customers
to travel quite high distances.

That sounds quite a place .

What I had I mind wouldnt be quite so frantic and the prices would be
about the same as anywhere else local .

As such it probably wouldnt make much of a profit and wouldnt work .

One think to think about I reckon is that if there is no booking system
there would be long periods of the day with no work. Also during busy
periods people might see the queue and be put off and drive to a competitor.

I've done the same with the likes of kwitfit in the past if the place
looks mobbed I drive somewhere else - doubt it would matter much what
sort of place it was .

I think you're being very unfair on them. But don't take my word for it, offer
the idea to Williams and see if they take you up on it.
