The twin toroidal CVT has been around a lot longer. Was called Perbury
is now Torotrak IVT - stepless ratio changes from reverse to high
overdrive using one planetary gear set and a toroidal CVT.  The R-R
Pegasus jet engine uses one to run the 70Kw alternator at constant
speed.
