SORN scam?  NO!

Many of you will recall the recent thread regarding the non-receipt, or at
any rate, non-recording of a SORN form and the letter I received requiring a
£40.00 penalty, plus back tax.

I wrote back to DVLA's continuous registration centre, explaining that I had
submitted a SORN form, and enclosing another one as a supplement to the
first one.

Today I received  a letter from them and this is what it said -

" Thank you for your recent enquiry concerning the late licensing penalty
requested from you for allegedly failing to relicense your vehicle as
required.

The contents have been noted and under the circumstances, no further action
will be taken on this case."

Result !!!!

So there is someone human there. Big up to the continuous registration
centre, no?

I have always found the DVLA to be reasonable for what its worth.
If only local council could take something out their book.

People around here seem to think these guys just want to f.ck you (and they
probably do)

As I have said I had my local council take down parking fines twice for me
just by sending in letters...so unless you have f.cked up bigtime they will
usually sort it out...

Indeed.

Now, if only you'd done that BEFORE throwing your toys out the pram, eh?

He clearly didn't throw his toys out the pram.  Pointing out on Usenet the
problems with the system and the government's desire to get money at all
costs, is not a toy throwing exercise - it is a Usenet service ;)

Ah yes, I remember, you're the one who got it wrong in every detail aren't
you?

Still at it then.

If only I'd done *what* ?

Well done!  A clink of light through the monolithic edifice.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "shazzbat"
<shazzbat@spamlessness.co.uk> saying something like:

It's big of the mealy-mouthed bastards to phrase it like that, as if
they're doing you a favour.

A simple apology would have been nice, but you'd never get one from
them.

Don't forget to write and thank them.

I have, and I have made a recommendation that they clarify the
acknowledgement business on the form.

I have had to do SORN's in the past and I have NEVER had an
acknowledgement, is this something recent?

(kajr@mwfree.net) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :

A year or two ago.

They probably found your original declaration, or found it had been
mis-entered into their systems.

The continuous registration centre should burn in hell along with its
creators.
