What if I want a car the same value or even a little less - will garages
still happily want to do a deal?

"Depends" is probably the best answer.  If you want something that the
garage is having a hard time shifting and want to trade in a car that
they think will fly out of the door and are happy to accept bottom book
value for it while paying windscreen price for your new car then they'd
be fools not to, really.

It might be more of a problem for smaller dealers with less cash-flow
though.
