Where can I get one of these - local post office won't give me any
forms ('we are not large enough') and won't give me a list of which
branches do.

www.theaa.com You can print off an application and send it to the AA, or the
site also lists the POs which issue them

aha! Very useful.
Seems a bit curious that you can simply post a photocopy of your
passport and driving license and get one - yet post offices require
the originals. Oh well.
Thanks for the info from t'others. I'm not driving in Europe, so I do
need something with my photo on.

A new photo licence then ? If you're off to North America, they are quite
happy with the pink paper one, too.

Where are you going ? The standard pink licence is quite acceptable in many
countries. (I fell for the overpriced, last-a-year grey one in my youth...)

If you are driving in Europe you don't need one. Went out with the ark.
Doesn't stop some organisations still selling them though.
