Possibly, but only when Lorraine Kelly gets to 90 years old.

Just realised that my brain can't seem to translate the order of letters
appearing on the screen in front of my eyes.  D'oh.

No, silly. That would be LZK.

Her real name is Lorraine Kelly-Zoocreature, but she uses Lorraine Kelly as
her stage name.

Well , 4 number NI plates are worth close to sod all , but the shorter
number could add value.
Just hope that Mr L. K. Zuckerman wants a new VRM for his 90th birthday

I think it's possibly worth £500 to someone who wants it.

However, if I was going to buy a vanity plate, I'd want the real deal, not
one that makes people look at my car and think "Oh, it's a mick plate. He
can't afford a proper one."

My Merc was tainted with an Northern Oirish plate, the plate went with the
car when I sold it. Wasn't worth the £80 transfer fee, and it made the car
look tacky anyway.

The plate made the car look tacky?? what the f.ck are you on about?
NI plates look a hell of a lot better than mainland ones, you can't even
decide what comes first, numbers or letters.

MUI 6494.

Hardly a plate to be proud of. I'd have been happier with its original F
registration, whatever it was.

Paddy plates on mainland cars look tacky. They're there because the owner
wants to hide the age of his car, no other reason. That's why you see so
many shabby 7 series BMWs, XJ Jags and the like on them. It's the owner
saying "I can't afford a newer model, I want a real ageless plate, so I
spent £99 on this one that says BAZ instead.".

NI plates on NI cars are fine. If I see something with them on, I'll look at
the back window / reg plate / whatever and if it's from "Dougals of Belfast"
or wherever than that's fine by me, if they're from "Bob's Bargain Bits,
Bolton", or "Prestige Quality Cars of Sheffield" you can pretty much
guarantee the car in question is owned by a builder from Bury who fancies a
"bit of flash", but has never serviced the car in its life and who probably
lives in a mock-tudor semi with bloody huge lions either side of the door.
Same script if the plates are from the local BMW / Jag / Merc dealer -
except that's just as bad, spending £30 on a pair of plates just to have the
main agent logo on, instead of just buying a proper plate.

Paddy plates? it's Northern Ireland not the Republic of Ireland plates we're
talking about here, and they are not ageless, it's easy to tell year and
other things from the plate.

By Paddy I meant NI plates.

I still stand by my statement though. NI plates used to hide the age of cars
from the casual onlooker are tacky.

You mean thick onlooker, as it doesn't take a genius to work out the year of
NI plates.

Two questions :-

How's it worked out?
How does that apply where they've been transferred to Swansea vehicles as a
"private plate"?

I'd like to know, because it all looks very random to me.

Thinking about it...... he could have put that number into a car data
search to get 91-92 as the year, so I'd like to know the method.

It doesn't.

I suspect it's fairly straightforward - when you know how the letter series
are incremented. I know the IoM *looks* fairly random, but there's a
definite series in there.

You know, there's even a logical reason to avoid the bloody things.

The Police assume they can't look them up on the PNC, so are more likely
to pull the car if it has an NI plate on it (even though they can
actually PNC check a cherished transfer).

Personally I just think they look shite.

Agreed. Our 75 has one, but that's because it came from the Republic via
NI back in the early 90s.

I can't be arsed to change it, I just see it as part of the 'provenance'
of the car ;-)
