It's tempting to say send me 99p and I'll tell you :-)
However, if it's like the Focus dash, just hold the trip button in whilst
you start the engine. When "TEST" is displayed in the trip LCD's, use the
button to cycle through the options.
Most of the data you see is obvious, if you Google you will find out whta
the rest is.

If it is like my Scorpio, just hold the trip reset button in for a goodly long
while and "ping", the dash goes into main dealer mode. You can read things on
the display and cycle through to other things by pressing the trip reset button
momentarily.
I particularly like the speed reading, as it is pretty well what the GPS says
I'm doing and not what the speedo displays. But on my one, it is only in kph.

On my Cougar (which has the same trip computer as last gen Mondeo's) you
Hold down RESET & UNITS, start engine, release RESET then UNITS.
Use SELECT to cycle throught he options.
The digital speedo is handy for seeing how much the needle overreads.

There's a similar sort of thing on VAG cars except using the climate control
system.
That also has a speed display except that reads below GPS speed by almost
the same amount that the speedo overreads

Consistently across a range of vehicles?
GPS is correct; if lagging in time. I'd have expected EMS to be correct but
depends on things like tyre pressure / wear.

Pretty close , yes.
The climate reading is 10% below the speedo reeding at "legal" speeds for
everyone I know who has tried it in a standard Octavia and a GPS reading
sits right in the middle.

It starts to be affected when you have aftermarket wheels and tyres on

I'm on stock rubber in good condition and GPS is bang on the speed sensor
output, albeit I have to express GPS in kph to get the same number.
If VAG are consistently underestimating speed to the EMS this must have some
fairly important ramifications to the EMS maintaining engine tune, etc? Unless
it's all relative - it could be done that way.
The introduction of error for the speedo is fair enough, generally the
adjustment means that in any extreme circumstances, you will still read no
lower than the true speed and can't blame the car under reading when the
rozzers catch you.
There doesn't *seem* to be any similar reason to under read. I suspect an
undesigned fudge has crept in, given that other EMS doesn't also do this and
any design considerations can be introduced deliberately at the EMS end.
I'm thinking it might be something of the sort where the sensor was designed to
read revolutions of the gearbox output shaft, and the EMS was designed to read
these pulses from the sensor based on, say, 13 inch wheels with 195/65 rubber
fitted. And, in those circumstances, the sensor pulses translate into, say, 50
mph inside the EMS.
Then someone took all these parts from the parts bin, and fitted them to a car
that marketing has decreed shall run on 14 inch wheels with 215/45 rubber or
something of that sort, where it means that the standard EMS and sensor now
read 48 where speed is actually 50. Since there is still +5 mph added on for da
Guvvamint the speedo now reads 53 so it complies with legislation just fine.
I have a feeling this would hit the fuel consumption measurements, but probably
this makes no difference apart from slightly misleading the driver.
I'm probably over-analysing this. ;)

Aye, and that appears on eBay quite a lot, despite being freely
available information. Sometimes I think I should buy one and then
type the information into their feedback.. hehe.. but then I guess if
they're fleecing idiots who can't be arsed or can't figure out how to
search for the information themselves, then good luck to them.

Works on my Mondeo. It does more than they say on this page, but I don't
know what half the stuff does TBH!
Pete.
