Although he won't moan if he is professional or won't care if he is a
careless employee, he generally will not be happy. Warranty work is a dead
loss for most work. The hours are drastically short of what the job takes
because there are proscribed times weighted in the manufacturers favour and
the rate per hour will also be at a poor rate.
What the dealer wants is to sell a car and to have a satisfied customer who
he sees only at service time for the first three years or so. If he cannot
compete or loses much custom to supermarkets, who will service and repair
those cars in the long term? The back street boys, good mechanics that some
of them are, just haven't got the specialist knowledge or equipment for an
increasing number of jobs.

That again is his choice. Someone has to buy new or there would be a
shortage of used cars.
Personally I generally buy new but if they don't hold their value I run them
long term, more than ten years in many cases and sometimes over twenty. If
the new car holds its value exceptionaly well over the first year or two, I
get shot. Which is why I no longer have the ML270 or X5 among others.

As long as they're not making records, I'll be happy.
