Thought i'd start this thread just to see if anyone has a good word to
say aout the Ford ST170s, when comparing against other cars they seem
to get slated!

Ditto.

Sorry, but thought the other thread was becoming confused with a shed
load of other car options and discussins on the go... cheers for the
responses, this is to me anyway a big decision so looking for as much
advice as possible...

Import Sylvia is the performance bargain, 328Ci is quick, fun and
sensible if you don't fancy a grey import:

I do.  I haven't driven a whole load of other cars to compare with, but
I'm very happy with the ST170 that I bought back in December.

At lower revs they don't seem massively powerful, but that's partly by
design.  The engine is CVT though, and when you start revving a bit
(over 3000rpm or so) it feels like a different car.

I'm sure there are more powerful cars out there, but the ST170 is a nice
compromise between all-out power and something that is vaguely
comfortable to drive!

CVT?!

VVT surely.

CVT is Continuous Variable Valve Timing (or something like that -
probably a better abbreviation) but it means that rather than a sudden
burst high up the timing changes more smoothly.

You can definitely feel the power change gradually as the revs increase.

Surely you mean CVVT, CVT is typically used for Continiously Variable
Transmission.

Our Accord has VTEC on the rump, which I suppose could have been called
CVTEC heh. :-)

That's always a plus point...

Only two things would improve a Focus, a can of petrol and a lighter.
