OK, since I've come out as a lover of ugly cars, which one, in your opinion,
is the ugliest?

It's a bit subjective, but it's generally reckoned that Ford Scorpios, Fiat
Muliplas and Ssanyongs all fell out of the ugly tree.

Personally, the Toyota Yaris Verso.

That's just it, though.  I see their point.  Spacious, yet compact.

But they are ugly.

Still I find the shape of the Ka shapely and curvy, but it isn't to all
tastes.

Was lent a Ka a while ago and found it handled pretty well zipping about
town.  Not a car for the open road but fun in confined spaces. Wasn't it's
suspension designed by Jackie Stewart or Moss or somone of that ilk? I seem
to remember them starting out with a wheel at each extreme corner to
eliminate overhangs for better handling.....

I still think the red ones with ladybird spots are fun too, sad huh?

Not outside of a marketing muppet's fevered brain, no.

The Kak is just a chopped down and reskinned mid-90s Fester.

And it drives in a similar fashion, but with what Ford at the time called a
bias more towards fun than comfort.  It has better roll resistance and a
marginally firmer ride.

Just what's so wrong with body roll, anyway...? Accept that, and you're
half way to getting perfectly decent roadholding *AND* good ride.

Nothing, but like chocolate, too much of it is a bad thing.

I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to say, but, yes.  You have your
body roll, your relatively smooth ride and great handling with the Ka.

In that case, my 2cv van (with slightly wider tyres and more supportive
seats) must be Really Quite A Large Bowl of triple chocolate chip ice
cream, with chocolate sauce and some flakes stuck in it.

They do and they don't.  ISTR seeing a pic of a Xantia Activa going around a

competition.

That's actually not a compliment if meant. Plenty cars have a far better
ride than any BMW. That's why they're considered more a driver's car.

Hmm.  Yes that may be true, but as you know, an "ordinary" specification
5-series has a wonderful blend of handling and ride.

It's my personal benchmark.

I've got one and I'd agree - for the driver. But the big Jags are much
more comfortable for a passenger. Big Citroens too.

Passenger?  Freeloaders!

But, yes you're absolutely right.

That said I'd throw the seats into the equation too.  This brings the Volvos

Had a 19 BX GTi that was the best car in a bend i've ever had. Felt like it
didn't roll an inch no matter how hard you pushed and gripped like the
proverbial to a blanket. Left lots of much more expensive metal for dead
especially in the twisty bits...

Hmm.  Fun on the track too, though: www.dervman.com/forum/kermittd.jpg

Mine was never quick in a straight line but surprisingly composed elsewhere,
especially under braking.

Yes that and to have lots of interior space.  Ford sacrificed the rear seats
for the front seats and the boot.

Whoever compiled that list is an idiot.

Absolutely. The first car on the list is a Citroen DS. Anyone who thinks
that ugly is brain dead. And many of the others are plain or just lacking
in flair. Ugly is different...

Yep. I hate modern Citroens, but the DS is a beautiful classic.

I also take exception to the inclusion of the Ford Anglia 105E. When viewed
in the context of its era, it's quite good looking.

I like 'em. What irritates is journalists gushing over it.  It's different -
but personally I think 'beautiful' is pushing it......

It's certainly one of the most sophisticated cars of it's time...

Allegro VDP. Any recent design Rolls or Bentley.

FFS, if you're going to claim the Ami, at least claim the much more...
idiosyncratic... earlier Ami 6, not the blanded-down 8.

(I'd also quite strongly disagree, but then I only recently sold the Ami I
had for 16 years...)

Actually the later one is worse (imho) simply because it *is* blander and
less ideosyncratic. The older one is loaded with character. The later one
looks like a fridge that's suffered a horrible accident in a teleport
machine.

That's the wrong Ami. You want the Ami 6.
