Really? My word!
I had a red one until I crashed it. It was red under the bonnet too. Is it
just the metallic colours that are not fully painted?

Dunno about Fiestas, but my friend just finally got shot of a Citroen C2 GT
(worst car ever - and I owned a Triumph Acclaim) and it was a lovely 'Primer
yellow' under the bonnet. Hadn't been crashed.

Nah. The C2 Pluriel was worse. Mobile bath, anyone?

That'll be the C3, then.

Might have been. :-S
I get numbers confused. ;-)

I thought exactly the same thing when I took delivery of my S-reg
Silver Fiesta in 2002. I phoned the dealer all concerned because I
thought it was a white car that had been resprayed to make it more
desirable (or something like that) and they "reassured" me that it was
supposed to be like that as they don't put the metallic paint under
there! Cheapskates!

Thanks for all the replies, and confirmation that this is to be
expected.

That's strange. My girlfriend had a 97R metallic red Fiesta, and that
was fully painted under the bonnet. Maybe it's just the silver ones.

Or maybe a red Fiesta uses a red primer, and the difference is less
noticable to a silver Fiesta using a white primer...?

That'll be it. My Lanncruiser Amazon in pinkie silver metallic has a sort of
light non-metallic grey paint under the bonnet. Less noticeable than pure
white maybe but certainly noticeable. Had it from new.
Just had a look at my silver Audi Q7 and the only painted metal under the
hood is the suspension strut tower supports [the rest is plastic and fibre
lining a la BMW style] which are painted in the proper metallic silver.

My BMW is the correct metallic everywhere. Except that they haven't
bothered with clear lacquer under the bonnet and on the boot 'jams'. Talk
about saving pennies. I'm not sure how durable bare base coat is either. I
had a leak from the screen washer motor and the paint were it dripped got
stripped back to the bare metal.

It's not just BMW. I see from one of the car magazines that a company
has started business offering a proper lacquer coat for metallic
finishes as an aftermarket option. Costs a fortune and I'd be uncertain
if the work would be done properly - thinking of all the poor quality
overspray on the rubber jobs I've seen in the past.
