I renewed my insurance in August for about £360 (comprehensive).
I seem to recall telling them about the speeding offence in Jan and
being told it would have a negligible effect on the premium.
However as was getting quotes from other companies at the same time
it's possible that I forgot as simply renewing means you're not asked
all the questions....
Anyway having renewed they sent me a letter asking permission to see
my DVLA records which I signed (no choice). Not sure why they would
have sent me the letter if I hadn't disclosed the speeding offence?
(SP30-3 points on licence - no other points in last 5 years).
They now say my premium will be increased by £130 more in light of
this offence, this is not punishment for not telling them, simply the
way their computer works out the premium including this offence.
They've listened to the phone calls I made to them and say I didn't
disclose the info. However at least one call was initiated by them
which probably wasn't recorded, I'm waiting for them to get back to
me.
They have already taken the money from my credit card.
Any advice on how I should proceed?

Do they not send you a copy of the proposal after you've renewed over
the phone?

What does it say on the documents they sent you when you took the policy
out?

Admiral did this to me, not about speeding but on me as an additional driver
on the wifes policy - I got stopped in her car and was hauled up as
uninsured. The court got the tapes of the original call to admiral as
evidence and they were wrong, I had been added as a named driver but they'd
not put it on the paperwork.
The call centre staff aren't all as good as you'd hope.

And you'd not bothered looking? All my insurance certificates explicitly
list the named drivers, and I'm fairly sure they always have.

They always do in my experience, and the letter which comes with the
documents does normally ask you to check the documents for accuracy.

Seconded which is why I called them up to change the engine size on my
Capris insurance when they hadn't. Again.

Ah, Admiral.
"Mr Wright, regarding your new policy with us - you haven't sent back proof
of your 6 years no claims to us"
"But I did, I posted it when you asked"
"Okay, that's not a problem. We can confirm it over the phone. How much no
claims do you have?"
"6 years"
"Thank you, that's now confirmed".

funnily enough it's admiral I'm having problems with also.
If I ask for a taped copy of all conversations are they legally
obliged to provide this and are they allowed charge me?

Admiral did that to me too heh. Although in their defence, I had sent the
proof, and the guy on the phone was very polite and friendly.
