Just bought a nearly new car from a garage.
For the first week or so, every time I got
in, I was struck by the new car smwll, but
now it's beginning to fade.  Is it one
particular cleaner or polish  that gives it
this smell, or what?
Cheers,
Pete

Go and ask your local valeting boys. The stuff they use simulates the new
car plastic outgas smell.

Next time, don't buy nearly new, buy brand new, and the smell will last
longer.

It gets neutralised by farts.

I think I saw "new car smell" air fresheners in ASDA.

I want to know what the valeters put on alloys, mine had this invisible but
greasy to the touch stuff that kept them looking great for ages, its washed
off now though.

I saw some "high mileage oil" in ASDA - ASDA value/budget range, 20W/50,
about £4 or so for 5 litres.  They know their market.

In other news, a mechanic I deliver to  had to replace an 80k-mile engine
that had been run on "oil for high mileage engines".  That's why I pay
something like £30 per 4 litres for 5W/40 fully synth for my Sprinter.  And
that's got a proper high mileage engine - 206k and counting.

Same here for the Ford, the Cologne engine came with a warning that
cheap oil would carbonise and foul the oilways so it's always had 5/40
synthetic, currently stuck on 180,000 miles because I'm not using it as
much as I used to.

I just love that smell too

I hate it. I'm currently driving a nasty, plasticky, gutless, steenking
Pug 207 hire car paid for by another driver's insurance while my proper
car's off the road. I seriously believe that unpleasant modern cars like
this are the main cause of road rage, crap driving, stress, unpleasant
attitudes and bad f.cking language.
And if it bleeps at me one more time, I'm taking the wire cutters to it.

On a more positive note, the cheque from the insurers arrived yesterday,
so I won't have to put up with this for much longer.

Could be the stuff the cleaners use on the hire car.
