A 1990 Vauxhall Astra 1.4GL....I'm not sure if it qualifies yet but I have
one FS. It needs a bit of welding...both front flitchs small plates, plate
under passenger seat rail and n/s rear end cill needs a patch. It drives
well as I rebuilt the top end last year with 5 new valves after a cam belt
snap and it has a recent exhaust. Needs paint on bonnet and wing to look
anything. Too good to scrap although I may break it if enough interest. I
would fix it and still may but too busy with Triumphs at the mo.
email me or post to the thread if interested. West London area.

No, nor will it ever.

A car like the Astra, even if it did have 1960s standard rustproofing and
paintwork, will not be a classic in the same way as a real 1960s car.

People said that about Morris Minors and Vauxhall Chevette's... but
they're considered classic ;-)
The Astra isn't old enough to be a classic. Maybe when it's 30 years
old it will be...

So's the Austin 7. Appeal to the sort of people who aspired to
Allegros. It's really sad when people limit their aspirations to that
extent.

Minors, yes. Shoveits? God, no....

The first ones are getting close to 25 years old now.

Zager and Evans I believe, and you shouldn't show up until 2010 HAL.

I reckon my Audi will be a classic one day. The engine is based on the very
first TDI engine Audi ever produced (just slightly uprated, from 115 to
140bhp) and it still fares reasonably well amongst much more modern diesels.
Might be a reason for hanging on to it a fair while.

This sounds like a piece of old sh.t, take the plates off and walk away!
