Had to visit west London today (Friday) and while driving through a busy
shopping street heard some two tones which turned out to be Mr Plod in  a
Transit.

Still people scurried across a light controlled pedestrain crossing instead
of waiting for a few seconds. Words fail me.

It might be because people have lost faith that they are actually
dealing with an emergency, based upon some recent events (I can't think
of any off the top of my head) - not that I condone this activity; the
law requires you to stop and let emergency vehicles past.
