As I left my car this morning, I locked the doors using the remote button,
which caused the indicators/hazards to flash once. As I was walking away I
noticed that a car had slowed down, obviously going to 'let my car out'
and use the space I was parked in.
Why flash the indicators like this when arming the alarm. It seems pretty
inconsiderate to other road users. I never put my hazards on to excuse
myself for parking somewhere like some do, so it irritates me when the car
does it 'by itself' ;-)

No thanks, I already have a bridge.

Er, could it be to let you know it's armed? It's called "feedback" you
know.
On a previous car I owned, the alarm siren beeped very briefly on
locking the doors and arming the alarm. Trouble is, it would make the
same noise if it failed to arm (e.g. a door open) when I pressed the
button. Relying on the noise alone meant I sometimes returned to the
car and found I'd left it unlocked for several hours. After that, I
relied on watching the indicators as confirmation that the doors were
locked and the alarm on.

Indeed.

IIRC, audible feedback on standard-fit new car alarms isn't allowed any
more.
People'd be constantly whinging "Whenever my neighbour comes back late at
night, his alarm goes BEEEP! and wakes me up..."
The other reason is - you're in a yard full of identical silver hatchbacks.
You press the key. Beep! Which car did you just unlock?

And if you're a service bod in a dealer, and have wandered out to PDI one
of a yard full of a dozen new (and unplated) cars?
Or a bloke working in an import yard, moving one of 250 cars just off the
boat?

They design systems into cars for the benefit of the delivery drivers?

They're going to get the feedback fairly damn sharpish...

When was this brought in? My dads Alfa 156 beeps. My Seat Leon doesn't but
I've heard you can enable it through the ECU.

Isn't it amazing the things some people find to whinge about?

I prefer it as it can tell me when I have locked the doors as I walk away.
Its better than my old one putting the alarm on and it goes beep at 3am in
the morning.
