Yes although TBH, it's hardly needed however I know that Parceline guys
do it when switching between single and double deck trailers. Virtually
every lorry I drive has a sliding fifth wheel. There's a pull handle
about 4" in front and below the release handle for the fifth wheel
although some units have a button in the cab.
We move ours in this country for different reasons to the US because we
worked out a close coupled trailer is a hell of a lot more stable and
produces less drag.

Nope. It's yet another in the long list of things you're "expected to
know" however the Drivers CPC is supposed to counter a lot of this and
mean that at least a new driver has an idea how to use a ratchet strap.
