Get a sun roof cut out, only a couple of hundred squids, the hot air that rises can escape much quicker, especially when you're moving. When I had my last car,if it was blazing hot,as soon as I opened the sun roof it was so much cooler.

Which is what they were designed to do, rather than for posing in Chelsea.

The rest of the range will certainly take account of > posing in Chelsea. Even Defenders are used as posemobiles in Chelsea (and elsewhere). I think the funniest that I have seen was a black Defender (high gloss) with chequerplate panels on the wings and sills, American pimpmobile style chrome side bars, chromed roof rack, chromed snorkel, chromed allows and chromed lighting bars. It was parked at the same hotel that I was staying in, the Grand Hotel Imperiale in Moltrasio. The owner was having it hand waxed and valetted despite the fact that it had arrived perfectly gleaming and clean.
My wife saw it and burst out laughing, as we parked the 4xFord next to it. The Ford had left our farm about eight hours before, and it was covered in mud from the journey down the unmade roads from the farm to the autostrada. I could see the owner of the Defender flinching as I parked up. The Defender had UK number plates on it, and the owner who seemed offended by wife's laughter lightened up a bit later on and told us that the Defender had never been off-road but he liked the "styling".

You forgot to say "fun" and "interesting" in your assessment of the Land Rover. I'm sure this is an oversight, because you have assured everyone in the past that your skills as a driver are so extraordinary that you can make any car drive enjoyable.

Here is a more useful one.
Open the sunroof, stand up, put your head through the sunroof.
Drive the car in that position.

When driving in the desert firstly wear the least amount of clothing that is tolerated by the locals, drive with the windows closed, you will sweat, when you are suitably runny open the drivers door window and receive a cooling draught of air on to the body, this will eventually evaporate your sweat but you will feel refreshingly cool during this process. when the cooling airstream turns red scalding hot your skin will be dry so close the window and go round again. Requires drinking quite a lot of water to be successful which is not a bad idea in those conditions anyway.
This also a very effective way of loosing quite a lot of weight quickly. Don't forget to take extra salt

If the window is fully open, the hot air dries the sweat too quickly and you loose the benefit of your sweat cooling you down.
What you need is enough air circulation to evaporate your sweat, a fan with the windows closed is good.
Mind you, until the outside air temp goes in excess of 35C you might as well just open the window.
The worst place I have ever been was Kuwait in summer. Temp was in excess of 40C with about 95% humidity. If you were in a car with aircon you would get condensation forming on the outside of the windows requiring you to use the wipers.

Crossing the place in a small french oven seems almost as batty as the cyclist we passed doing the same thing.
I take it that the cooling system on the 2cv is well designed? I wouldn't have tried it in my old mini. Or rather I would, but I'd have thought it was a bloody silly thing to do.
[1] i.e the car had good air-con. The car itself was awful; the most impressive thing about it was how they managed to make something with a 3.7l V6 go more slowly than my diesel 205.

Well, quite, although they will of course be running 30-40K hotter than they would over here. What gives out on aircooled engine? Modern oils will tolerate pretty high temperatures without significant breakdown. Hmmm. Differential expansion between engine block/head?

Ally crankcase, iron barrels, ally pistons, ally heads. No contact between heads & crankcase apart from the three head studs & the barrel.
Get 2cvs really hot, and they'll start pinking like an absolute bastard, followed a little while later by partial seizure of the pistons & barrels. Once they've cooled down, they'll run quite happily again - for years - albeit with a little higher oil consumption and a little less power.

Probably 99% of the engine output is driving the aircon.
Years ago a colleague of mine was driving a hire car through Death Valley when it started losing power. After a few moments of panic he remembered the hire company telling him to turn the aircon down in really hot conditions - problem solved. He was never so glad to get to his destination as he was that day.
