I assume ANPR uses OCR 'Optical Character Recognition',not dissimilar to
computer OCR software on a computer
and then comparing the number plate characters with a national database
of known car reg's  on a computer in the van.

There is no need to assume, the information is available through the link I
posted.

What is smug about it, it has given the enquirer access to far more
information than any post on this group is able to?

OK, if you want to be treated as dumb I'm happy to co-operate, link to which
web site and why?

You're doing it again Mr Smug.
Copy of the OP's original question:

"I was wondering how they actually work or process number
plates. Also how many lanes does one camera cover" ?

That question ^  above.

That's not a web site. You said "I would've given a direct link."

Are you avoiding the question by asking another one?

I suggest you read the thread from the beginning again.

This here http://www.google.com/search?btnG=1&pws=0&q=anpr+cameras to
avoid making yourself look like a childish prat trying to score
points.

That's your imagination at work.

MBQ, Bod, NM.

We only need Toomy and Bloater to have the entire "Coalition of the
Stupid" responding.

No you wouldn't. You'd have made a series of moronic assumptions and
then continued asking stupid questions until someone else had answered
the OPs question. As you are doing at present.

I sometimes wonder what your role in life is. Village Idiot? National
Low Water Mark for IQ? Performance Artist creating the work "Not Only
Sheep Bleat"?

Were you? How terribly interesting. If someone gave you the technical
details would you understand them?

> Also how many lanes does one camera cover ?

Face it, if your car isn't insured, taxed and MOTd then driving past an
ANPR camera is only for the fuckwitted.

I was and yes I find it terribly interesting. I couldn't answer that until I
have seen them.

Indeed it is. But what happens once you drive past a ANPR with say no
insurance ?

...Only interest in the anpr as were we live the DVLA have had a number of
new vehicles doing roadside checks. Sadly I was pulled over for having no
insurance. I had just taken the insurance out the night before and aparantly
it had not shown up on the national insurance database so I was told. The
police officer said he didn't belive me otherwise their faultless ANPR
camera would have "pinged me up" so he proceeded to call Admiral and soon
looked very stupid and apologised and I was on my way.

It gave a a few things to think about one being how quickly does your
insurance details get onto this database ?

And if you were a rougue driver with no insurance for example and a ANPR
camera "pinged you" what happens next ...assuming its say a motorway one or
a non patrolled one. Does a flying helicopter fully equipped with rockets
lock onto you a blow you up ? or does a fleet of class A police drivers T
pack you ? or in true British fashion do you receive a brown envelope
through the door, or does it just log your plate and the net time it passes
a ANPR patrolled setup pings you to getting pulled over to explain why you
had no insurance on such date and time ?

Having a bad day are you?

If you're so clever, why not answer the OPs question in a more
civilized fashion?

The information is already out there, if people can be bothered to look.

I was not able to access google at the time.

So much for friendly sharing of information.

Its amazing how 90% of posts here seem to go way off topic which petty crap.

There's more than one search engine.

Or say nothing which would have been a bit more helpful.

Why didn't you do a search, find the information for yourself and save
yourself the embarrassment of looking like a numpty?

Not at all, I'm having a very good day.

Why don't you stick your head in a bucket? Do you think every moron too
thick to use Google deserves an answer?

No, so why bother answering at all?
