Hi, I've jsu t bought a 89 MK2 Golf. The gearbox seems really loose as it will go into reverse without pushing down. This is a major problem as my girlfriend is a new driver. I've looked in my Haines manual and think it may be a simple spring. It says in need to ramp it to undo and maintian the Gearbox. It's the mechanism on the bottom of the gearstick that stops you going into reverse without pushing the stick down. The repair kit is cheap, but you might have to drop the exhaust to fit it. When this happened to our mk2 polo, I managed to bodge it by getting the stick out and walloping the interlock up the gearstick a bit, but that's not really the way to do it....... > >> Hi, I've jsu t bought a 89 MK2 Golf. IIRC the reverse detent bits can be seen if you pull the gaitor off. |
