Changing pollen filter on Golf Mk V

Anyone knows how to locate the pollen filter on a Golf Mk V ?
It does not seem to be on the manuals -- probably to make owners return
to service area for the task.

Another issue - those who live in Australia find the 1.6 model has a
documentation with wrong fuse-box diagram.  Most service shops don't
want to know about it -- they just don't care here and will not even
pass it on to HQ.
Anyone know of a good e-mail address in Wolfsburg Germany for
complaints ?

In my mark 3 golf its located underneath the right bottom of the windscreen
if you're looking at the car from the front. Have to unscrew all the plastic
surround under the windscreen to get to it.

Hope the Mk 5 is easier to get at than the Mk 3.  If not, good luck on getting
that plastic off - the 'screws' aren't really proper screws for servicing,
they're 'bang 'em in' when assembling.    In two careful attempts to replace the
pollen filter in my Mk 3 I've managed to lever the cover up enough to change it
the first time and the second time actually got one screw to release but a
second pulled the insert from the housing and left me with a problem.  Blxxxy
designers!   Save a penny per car on the build and leave headaches for the
servicing mechanic.

It's like the daft practice of the idle and mixture on the Mk 2 Polo carb - at
the back underneath.  OK it's a bit easier on LHD as the brake reservoir isn't
in the way, but it's stupid where you have to remove the aircleaner and so
disrupt the airflow system to adjust the idle speed and mixture.

It is. It is like a Mk IV.

Thanks to everyone for the info esp Dave.  I did find that some of the
plastic just below the wipers were sub-standard compared even to my
12-year old Nissan.
I'll have to scout around for a good set of tools to do a proper
removal

You should only need a crosshead screwdriver.

Here is a diagram for a LHD Mk.IV:-

I'm sure the Mk.V is the same.

I'm speaking about the Mk3, maybe the later ones are not the same.

Yes, in theory a single crosshead screwdriver is all that's needed.  In practice
I found it hard work, and that's speaking as someone who has spent 40 years
servicing and repairing my own VWs, and rebuilt the odd one or two.  The screws
simply didn't seem to want to undo and release the cover - actually one was
fine.  The other turned, but didn't seem to undo.  I ended up losing the
'captive' nut into the bowels of the car, and had to devise an alternative
fastening.  I don't know what went wrong, but it did give me problems beyond all
normal expectations.  Maybe someone had replaced one of them with a ringed
rather than threaded version - I don't know.

What should have been a quick and easy job turned into an hour's marathon.

Yeah I know; the Mk3 was an arse for that. But th OP was asking about the
MkV which is like a MkIV.

Thanks - I appreciated that the OP had a Mk5.
Relieved to find it's not just my failing faculties then!

If it's any consolation Seats aren't any better - much the same
arrangement on my 03 Leon.

Is there any suitable replacement?

It'll be under a cover just in front of the left-hand (from inside) bottom
edge of the windscreen. Should be two screws and a cover and it'll be
behind that along with the outside air temperature sensor.
