I'm in the market for a nice Mk2 Golf GTi if anyone out there is flogging
one for sensible money.

Read sensible as "not expensive".

Don't mind a bit of MOT work, but something solid and driveable would be
good. Tax is a lovely bonus for which you would be rewarded.

3 or 5 door, K-Jet or Digipants, intergalactic mileage, LHD or RHD anything
is good, but anything that's been attacked by the Boy Racer Demon will be
frowned upon. (although I don't mind Bilsteins and a quiet sport exhaust)

Preferably within a couple of hours sensible drive from of Liverpool.

Oh, deals with my Scirocco are possible and encouraged, it's on ebay now.

<look away now if you don't want to see an ebay ad>

Ok, I admit it, I like Renault 5s.

Depends on what you mean by 'a nice Mk2 Golf GTi' and 'not expensive'?
Those statements don't really go together now I think!

You can try    http://www.volkswizard.co.uk/

Andy will soon have a 90/G white one for £1990 in good nick, but that might
be over what you want to pay???

Other than that, can't help I'm afraid.

Well, I'm currently looking at two nice Tornado red  '89"G" small bumper 8v
3drs which I can buy either of for under £600.

One has had over a grand spent on it in the last 12 months, clutch, cambelt,
water pump, heater, shocks + springs, radiator, all bushes, exhaust, discs
and pads, full geometry alignment, top mounts, battery, alternator, fuel
pump, steering rack, sump and rocker cover and a few other bits, but I'm not
that tempted to give him £600 for it because he's my mate and I know he
wouldn't give me £600 for it if I was selling it to him!...

I'd forget about the grudgery and snap his hand off TBH. That's pretty much
everything that's liable to go wrong on a MK2 bar the oil pump. Assuming the
bodywork's fine you'd probably shift it for the best part of a grand on the
likes of Club GTI too...
